heater knackered after parking up for 4 weeks

have been a guest of the nhs for 4 weeks and on first driving my 991.1 all was ok - except heater and brake discs (latter sorted themselves after a short drive as usual). however heater and fan won't do anything at all. controls show fine all buttons light up fan controls allow adjustment of fan speed etc - but diddly squat happening at the air vents - no fan buz at all and no cold air and no hot air.

am I missing something obvious or is it off to OPC for fettling again ?

thanks

Reach in to the fan housing in the front right hand side, under the plastic cover, remove the filter, (easy to do), and just give the fan blades a little spin. Make sure ignition key off first.

thanks - where is the fan housing you refer to - access from the front boot do you mean - or somewhere internal?

As i said, in the front, offside, under the removable plastic cover, the battery and other stuff is underneath it. The fan and primary pollen filter is about the size of a small loaf of bread. The filter front easily comes off and you can see and reach the fan blades. They are about 5 inches n diameter.

found it! twiddled fan - and hey presto - all working perfectly again

many thanks for the excellent advice - really appreciated :)

Oddly enough Richard this appears to be a fairly common internet chatter topic for the 981/991-series cars. I think there was a recent post on the Cayman or Boxster forum.

Porsche Centre response appears to be somewhat random, from "we can't find a problem" to "we've replaced the motor". Hopefully, if you're back to using the car regularly the problem won't reoccur.

Thanks for this. I had the same problem with a 2016 991.2 this morning after being away for 3 weeks. The advice saved me trip to the OPC.

Must be the type of fans manufacturers are using now, neighbour had exactly same issue in his new Discovery after it was laid up for a few weeks. AA guy did the same just spun the fan and all ok

Hi, had the same problem with a 2013 boxster S. Took the car back to Porsche as it was under warranty and they just squirted wd40 into the fan and span it. That was a year ago and no further problems.
