Tyres for touring

Hi All
The wife and I have decided to venture on a European roadtrip next may and will be covering approximately 3000 miles in my 997.1S. My previous Porsche was a 996 98my and I drove 700 miles in one day with no back pains or buttock dancing and felt quite refreshed on returning home. I have only done a maximum of 200 miles in a day in the 997 and to be honest the 996 was far more comfortable. I understand that the suspension on the 997 is slightly harsher but I would like to know what would be a suitable tyre to fit that would soften the ride and reduce road noise as my existing Pirelli's are at the end of their lives and will require replacing soon. Appreciate all the feedback I can get on this as four new tyres is quite an outlay and getting it wrong will not impress the wife or my wallet

Michelin pilot sport 4s, i cannot speak too highly of them. Recommended without reservation, but expensive.

I'm surprised as found the exact opposite!
The 996 crashed through the potholes and bumps where the 997 was quite a bit smoother though the bumps and road surface, most significant change was that I did think the 997 suffered from road noise slightly more.

I ran Bridgestone which had a firmer side wall than some other brands- so probably not the choice for you.

Another vote for Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. But they may not be N-Rated in your size. If that’s the case, and if you have a Porsche warranty that you want to renew and / or you care about N-Rating (some do and some don’t) then you will need an alternative that is N-Rated. In that case choose Michelin a Pilot Sport 2.

Also, if you have PASM then buy the DSC V1 plug and play replacement PASM controller from Ken at 9e. It transforms the ride into a very compliant and smooth experience.

Disclosure. I have MP4S tyres and a DSC V1 fitted to my car.

Rnjoy your trip.
