Cayman 2.9 Gen 2 noise on start up

A couple of times this week, the car has made a flat/buzzing type noise from the engine bay at cold start. For those of you old enough to remember, its similar to the noise you used to get from bad radios when you revved the car. I thought it might have been a blowing gasket between the cat/silencer ( and it isn't) but after 30 seconds it goes away. I'm going to get stuck into it this weekend but has anyone experienced something similar to point me in the right direction? Out of 8 cold starts this week, it has done it twice.

Thanks

Neil

If it stops 30 seconds after a cold start, it sounds to me like it could be the secondary air pump which is noisy. You could try pulling the relay for the pump (in the rear compartment behind the carpet panel IIRC) before a cold start to see if the noise is eliminated. You might get a check engine light, but it should clear itself after inserting the relay and a driving cycle or two.
