Grills

hi, I would be interested in people’s opinions of ZUN-SPORT front grills for the 2009 987.2. I am interested in whether they are really necessary. The cost of over £120 seems a lot to me.

I've put them on my 987.1 to stop leaves etc building up against condensers . Could save money in the long run.

Definitely worth it. Lots of stories of condensers rotting out due to leaves and debris getting stuck round the bottom and soaking up moisture. To save money you could also makemyour own from mesh but they look best if fitted from behind which means removing the bumper.

Worth doing. The condensers went on my car last winter. Easy job to replace and whilst the bumper was off I printed grills on a 3d printer. Others have used cut down mesh

Hi,
I would definitely recommend them after seeing the damage debris caused to my old 986 before I fitted some others to that. As soon as I bought my 987 Gen2, I got grills as soon as I could. I would have preferred to fit them behind the fins, but could only find an American company that did them, but they went bust just before I placed an order! So I searched and Zunsport were the best option. I have attached a picture, I don't think it looks bad at all and its protecting my car at the same time, therefore saving me money. I also think that Zunsport offer a discount (or they did) to PCGB members, worth asking??

The cost for replacing my rotten condensers from my local Porsche specialist was £720, fitting the grills cost £180. So I think it's a no brainer to fit the grills.
It beats me why they're not fitted as standard equipment

I guess it depends on how much risk you are going to take with your radiators / condensers. I fitted the grills to my 987 as there is plenty of room for rubble, small animals and other road debris to score a direct hit, as well as leaves and cigarette butts to get lodged. I also use the car a lot. The grills are easily cleaned so, as above, no contest.

But, my local OPC is asking the fatherland if they will be acceptable for the extended warranty. Current belief is that it will not pass the 111 point check with grills fitted. However, the warranty does not cover replacement of the radiators if caused by impact damage. Seemingly a no win situation. I await their response.

I fitted Zunsport Grilles to my 987.1 to keep debris out and because I like the look of them. In my opinion it’s a no brainer. I’m sure they still offer a discount to PCGB members. Call club office and they’ll give you the code

Try code N102014 for a 20% discount. It's an old one but worked for me last year. Alternatively quoting the membership no. i was given, 1006 35626, may get you 15% off. And if those don't work do a search on Boxa.net - often codes floating around on there.

I had them fitted when I bought my 987.1 at the recommendation of RPM specialist Porsche. They look great, and at this time of year with all the leaves and other autumnal debris blowing around I get peace of mind as well.

Another Zunsport fan here. Got them on our 997. An example of what grilles can prevent - this photo taken at Oulton Park track day last week, more photos from Oulton Park on this thread if you are interested

I have just replaced my condensers due to fod so whilst in there fitted some mesh to the back. Looks better than stock imo but does require bumper removal. As said its a no brainer to fit these and interestingly my 981 spyder came fitted with them but the 987.2 nowhere to be seen.

Regarding a post earlier in this thread, why would fitting these grills cause problems with the extended Porsche warranty ?

Because porsche are fixated about your car being completely standard. They may for example argue that the reduction in area would cause your engine to overheat so wont warranty it. Most of its rubbish of course. You could take the view that porsche is controlling the supply chain.

Thanks for the information, their attitude seems a bit OTT but as a new used car owner I was interested to know if there was any practical problems with fitting grills, I read on one of the forums that they take the same stance with hard wiring dash cams.

If you have a warranty it makes sense to check with the OPC that sold or services your car before you change anything from standard. The extended warranty seems to be the most restrictive.

If I felt I needed to make a claim for something on the warranty I’d whip the zunnsports off at home before going to centre
only takes 15 minutes
