Rear light condensation

Since purchasing my 997.2 c2 my rear lights have suffered from internal condensation build up. Weather dependant it can be very minor or slightly more so. The lights work fine but, on an otherwise perfect car, it is something i would like to address.
Is it a simple case of changing some seals on the cluster or would the entire fitting need replacing (not that bothered if yes).
Thanks

You have probably got 7/8 years build up of condensation from our lovely climate, that can be cleared up by removing the lights(see manual) and maybe the odd bulb and drying them out with a hair dryer, you want a flow of air going through it. Its worth doing to see if that solves the issue before going on to any more expensive options.

Hi I had the same problem on my early Gen 2 C4s, I believe some of these light units were replaced on early cars under warranty. I tried draining & drying, but then the LEDs started to fail. After a lot of research I found out carparts4less had replacement units (complete with Porsche part no) at a reasonable price. I changed over both units & have not had a problem since.

Cheers

Steve

Thanks both. I will try Gordons suggestion first as the lights are £435 each which wont be an option for now but the info is much appreciated.

Hi,
I also had the same problem on my 997.2 C2S, seem to be a common problem on the rear LED lights. However the OPC had to replaced the complete light units under warranty and touch wood the problem seems to have gone away.
regards

Pete

Oddly, the removal of rear lights is not in the manual but I found instructions on line. Having removed it, a surprising amount of water came out but I am now drying it out. It would seem that the cause is the join between the clear and red parts of the lens leaks so ingress must be occurring there. I may try dripping som eof the very liquid superglue into the seem and let the capillary reaction fill the gap.
I hope the LEDs dont fail like McMurray found as they have been fine to this point.
