Someone reversed into my front bumper

picking my wife up from the station this evening, sat in the car with music on, someone reversed out of a disabled space (who wasn’t disabled) straight into my nsf bumper, scuff marks and a couple of gouges out of the bumper.
Driver has asked if I can get a quote and not use insurance - i am only prepared to go to Porsche as car is just over 12 months old and 2k miles. are they likely to fill and spray or replace the bumper and spray? Any ideas on what it might cost. Can’t get to dealer until Friday/Saturday at earliest.

Other driver admitted liability (for what that’s worth) and was extremely apologetic.

Am I best to advise my insurance company about the incident and the preferred approach or do they get funny about wanting to claim off the other party as the first course of action?

Car is. 718 Cayman in met sapphire blue. cant see any damage to radiator/condenser or whatever is in that corner but assume Porsche would check it out fully....

Sadly, I think I would inform my insurance company unless I could get some form of guarantee that the other person WILL pay up then I would maybe consider not informing my insurance.

I have had some bad experiences in the past trying to help another motorist out. It's a call that you yourself must make.

If a Cayman front bumper is priced like a 968 front bumper (I recently had to have mine replaced) the price will shock you - mine was £1300 plus paint and fitting!

I was in the same position a few years ago except the driver left without telling me 😡

the replacement cost was near £1.5 k

I would have a low threshold for going through insurance unless the guy is v

ery very nice!!

When the guy discovers the price of a Porsche Approved bodyshop his offer will be quickly retracted[]

I had a similar thing happen to the Cayenne a couple of years ago, but rear bumper in that case, and the bill for a new bumper, bent exhaust box etc was £6k. The driver did a runner outside the store we were visiting, but fortunately the CCTV captured the event and the Police made a friendly visit.

Paul,

I hit a kamikazi cat in my 987.2 CS and the repair cost via a Porsche recommended repairer for a new front PU and part of the nearside front grille was about £2.3K.

Since it's the third party's fault I'm with those who would recommend putting the claim through your insurer.

My need for a new front bumper (and undertray) was a plonker moment on my part - parking nose first over a kerb that was slightly too high, then reversing off pulling the bumper and undertray off in the process. Thankfully my insurance with Equity Red Star via Classicline includes accidental damage, so it cost me the £100 excess rather than the full £2500-3k actual cost. Just waiting to see how much my renewal will be next month! Had to tell LV about it last week when I renewed the insurance on the shopping trolley, it increased the renewal by £3!!

Just moved from LV, excess was a whopping 650, which makes any incident quite painful... gone with Lockton with just a 250 excess.

My excess with LV is £250 for the 2008 MB C220Cdi estate - IIRC £150 compulsory and £100 voluntary. Also glass replacement excess is £90 rather than the £75 it used to be. However, the 968 cab with ClassicLine, as I mentioned above, the excess is only £100, and the policy automatically includes full EU breakdown and recovery - amazing!

I hope that you have already got his insurance details, there shouldn't be any need to claim on your own insurance have all details written down including your statement of what happened. If he backs off from his offer to pay get one of the claims companies to handle it. It shouldn't effect your insurance and if he fails to pay they will get it from him or his insurer.

Doesn't always follow that your insurance gets the repair money from the others insurers. Remember it's a

, No claims policy not a no blames policy. If you claim you could lose your no claims bonus thats why people protect that bonus in their policy payments.

So....costs were too much for other party to cover outside insurance. My insurer ended up passing me to a claims handling company which once I understood would double/tripple the claim, I cancelled. I was then contacted by the other party’s insurer who has agreed to fully pay the claim, manage the claim and pay me £250 for not using a claims management company. Repair going through a Porsche approved repairer with a life time warranty. I’m happy And costs are minimised. annoyed that my own insurance company is supporting inflating premiums by putting me through to a claims management company..... hmmmmmm.

Strange that your own insurance company didn't resolve the issue? Makes you wonder why?

A friend of mine has recently had a very similar incident with his 2014 Cayman. The Porsche recommended bodyshop re sprayed the bumber. It went through the third party insurance and was circa £1350.

YEP _Insurance companies waste mone Had the same problem when I had a windscreen damaged. I insisted that it be done at BMW Dealership as I knew it would be genuine parts (Obviously a 3 series!!) They said I would have to pay any extra - I agreed on the understanding they would pay me anything save

Was nearly 200 CHEAPER at Dealership!!

Needless to say they still charged me excess

Hi in April 2015 first trip out in the Cayman from winter lay up I was hit nsf by a suicidal deer did £3k of damage I had to go through ins and the bloody deer got up and ran away

My bill for a similar impact with a kamikazi cat earlier this year on a rural road was slightly less Mark, but then a deer's a hefty animal and probably caused more damage. The parts bill alone was nearly £800 for the front PU, n/s air grille and duct plus £250 for "additional" items. My insurers handled the claim very smoothly and did at least ask what happened to the cat which, of course, it had skidaddled after the accident. Maybe they were hoping to trace its owner to present them with a hefty bill..!

Incidentally, the quotes from two Porsche approved repairers (note that Porsche don't have recommended repairers now) were almost identical.
