How do you fix a lope sided tonneau cover on an 02 Boxster?

hi everyone, just brought an 02 Boxster which I am loving however I have two issues which I hope someone can help and guide me with. I have a bad rattle on tick over from the rear exhaust, suspecting it’s the cat heat shield but how do I verify and fix ? The other issue is I have a problem with a lobbed sided tonneau cover. At the weekend I put the roof down, came to put it back up and it was catching. Noticed the retaining clip holding the tonneau on one side had popped out so fixed that. Since then however on the opposite side (passenger side) when fully closed the tonneau is no longer in line. What have I done that’s broken my little beauty please?

Presume its got no warranty If you get your car up on axle stands with wheels off you should trace where the rattle is coming from You could always take it in to your local Exhaust centre and get then to look and quote. Guys around my way are very helpful Could certainly be a loose heat shield or Cat breaking down With regard to the so called Tonneau cover its the roof that is the problem. A tonneau cover was used by early open top to cover the open part of the car when it is raining. Either Passenger or passenger and Driver and usually steering wheel THis could be an easy fix or the loose fixing has damaged the roof. Will come back tomorrow with some suggestions One problem is that the back of the roof can over ride the back of the window. cant see from your photo but it will mark the plastic. This is an easy fix. The elastic that pulls the roof under the cover has perished and needs replacing. Will try and find the blogg on this

If you are talking about the clam shell not lining up, there are plastic ramps underneath that stop the shell in the correct position, I would suspect you have lost or moved your one on that side, take a look at the other side and hopefully it will become clear. Nothing to do with the roof.

Thanks for the quick response, I will have my car up on axle stands at the weekend to investigate the rattle. I have a feeling the cat is breaking down but I will get a better insight at the weekend.

Thanks again for the guidance on the roof, will look at that also.

Hello,

I have a 03 plate Boxster S that developed a rattle from the rear. It was as you mentioned above the heat shield coming loose.

A quick and easy fix was to use a long metal jubilee clip. If you straighten them out you can thread it round the heat shield and cat and then tighten. Job done.

Of course this won't help if it is the cat breaking down inside :)
