Richard saves the day

Having endured building works at home for some 3 months, my beloved 996 4S Cab has not seen the light of day due to building materials covering the driveway access to the garage where she lives. On trying to turn over the engine yesterday, she was as dead as the proverbial Dodo. Fortunately the doors were not locked but I needed to raise the front compartment lid to attach my battery charger. I know there are hidden release cables but I have tried that once before and failed.
So I turned to Richard Hamilton's excellent booklet '996 Ultimate owners Guide' which I purchased some years ago, and low and behold on Page50, there was the answer to my problem with clear simple colour pictures. I located the power connection in the fuse panel and attached my charger, connecting the negative to the door striker as illustrated, and within an hour there was enough charge in the battery to open the front compartment and attach the charger direct to the battery.
Thank you Richard - my money was well spent !

Ha, Ha - you sound like my wife tim92gts !
But seriously, I put on this post to help others in a similar situation at this time of year who, like me, don't RTFM !
