April 28th 2019 R7 Visit to McLaren Leeds

MCLAREN SUNDAY UPDATE

Start time is circa 10.30 am Finish....when your all gone I am told!

Mclaren have arranged a SPECIAL GUEST for the day......A Mr Niki Faulkner (maybe your familiar with him?) he has been the stunt driver and driving double for Jeremy Clarkson for Top Gear and The Grand Tour for the past 10-15 years. He has also been the stunt driver in many films such as Mission Impossible, Rush, etc. Obviously he has vast experience of all types of high performance cars including the whole McLaren and Porsche range and can therefore knowledgeably highlight key benefits of both Mclaren and Porsche! At some stage well gather in the showroom and there is a nice opportunity for a Q and A with Niki.

Please contribute a small donation to the charities as all of the event is Mclaren Funded. Butties/coffee van on site as promised. They are investing Millions in this new facility in Leeds and it is also possible we will be given a walk around the site and buildings going up for those interested.

Our hosts (who have been very accommodating to the Club) are Mark Balance, Gen Sales Manager and Richard Coldwell, Sales on the day and I will be floating around from 10am.
have offered the opportunity to have a breakfast meeting at their new Leeds showroom. The final bits are in build and they are operational now. I was there at the weekend and they put on a nice morning for the supercar group with a coffee wagon and butties. there is lots of parking, its easy to get to, I found them very accommodating and sat in all the cars etc and we could even have a PM run after if need be.

The show room will be opening an hour early for us and Bacon butties will be available but they need to know numbers in advance and by April 14th. So if you would like to come along sign up and indicate how many and if you would like Bacon butties.

IMPORTANT UPDATE:

This event is proving to be very popular and has evolved since it was announced. Bacon or vegan butties, tea/coffee are being provided by McLaren and a drive to MacKenzies Smoke House near Blubberhouses for lunch has been added. Numbers for food are required in advance. Please see the list on page 5 to see what requirements I have recorded.

A limit of 100 people for McLaren and 50 for lunch at MacKenzies Smoke House has had to be applied and we’re close to them as of 29 March.Applications for the visit and amendments to requirements for food will close at midnight on 12th April 2019. The upstairs area at MacKenzies, which can accommodate 50 diners has been reserved. I’ve negotiated a deal for a two course lunch £17.95 per head and it is essential that members pre-order either by stating their requirements on the forum or by emailing me at rogergoode47@gmail.com . The R7 menu can be view here.

Given that everyone will enjoy tea/coffee and a butty courtesy of McLaren, we felt it would be nice to try and raise a bit of money for a charitable cause. This is totally voluntary of course but anything is appreciated so we can try and beat the £134 raised by the recent supercar club visit to Mclaren.

I am sure PCGB Yorkshire Region 7 can do better!?

If you can stretch to £2 a head that would be greatly appreciated or more should you wish. The money collected will be donated by R7 equally to the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Lymphoma Trust.

Donations will be collected in a BIG orange bucket at McLaren.

thanks in advance for your kindness!

Mark Grainger and Roger Goode

Hi Mark,

Sounds like a brilliant idea to me. I will drop you an email but I am happy for you to run with it and set up a date with them.

It is 99.9% certain that the visit to McLaren Leeds will be on 28th April. Confirmation and time etc will follow soon.

McLaren will need to know numbers so anyone who hasn’t expressed their intention to attend will need to do so.

Roger

Hi David

I’m working with Mark and confirm that you and everyone else who has previously expressed their desire to attend, on this post, are on the list.

Mark is waiting for details of the start time and about bacon sandwiches etc.

When we have details I will start a new post headed McLaren Leeds Visit to highlight the event but rest assured that I will frequently check on this post to ensure that everyone is included.

Roger

Randolf, please see the message I’ve just posted in response to David. I ought to have also included your name, apologies. The message applies to everyone on here who has expressed a desire to attend.

Hello,

Please add us to the group. Looking forward to getting the car out of hibernation. This would be my 2nd McLaren visit - they were very friendly when I wandered into the Tokyo showroom.

Chris
