Possible Clutch Problem

Good evening. would welcome some guidance on a possible Clutch problem.

2007 Boxster S manual with 58k on the clock. Went on a 15 mile drive to an event earlier today. On the return trip an hour later - so engine still warm - I noticed it became more difficult to change gear. No crashing of gears but definitely more effort required when changing into a new gear Whereas previously, changes were fairly slick and needed little effort.

My immediate thought was perhaps the Clutch is on the way out but the clutch pedal hasn’t stiffened which I’ve read is the most obvious symptom. Also, no clutch slipping as far as I can tell. However, based on mileage I’m assuming I’m probably due a new clutch.

Has anyone had any similar experience or symptoms that might be able to suggest what the problem could be ?

Sounds like clutch is not releasing properly. A quick test is to try to engage reverse gear. You could try pushing down clutch and then after say five seconds try to engage reverse, if it crunches then the clutch is not clearing when pushed. Possible cause is that the operating mechanism has become broken or deranged. This was common on 911 in the 80s. I have no knowledge of how prevalent it is with Boxsters,

Check your fluid level (Brakes and Clutch the same)

Otherwise may be some thing wearing

If you do get the clutch checked don't forget to check the RMS is not leaking
IMS is inside engine on this one so you cant check this)

Turns out Clutch had reached its sell by date So its been in for a new clutch, flywheel & RMS. Ouch !
on the upside, it’s now good for the next 60,000 miles .........
