Before you order a new starter motor, make sure all connections and cables are ok. Especially the engine earth strap which can come loose or corrode. Then crank the engine with multimeter across the main positive terminal on starter, and the starter body. If its got a decent voltage and still not working properly then it probably is faulty. Good luck!

When checking earth strap not only check connections are clean, but on the long one that goes over the rear beam lift it up and check not covered in corrosion. I had same issue and replaced the cable never had another problem afterwards

when you do lift the cable clear of the rear beam, mine was corroded underneath where it lies on the crossbeam

As ts pre-engaged, the contacts in the solenoid maybe on their way out.

I have managed to clean contacts in the past (but on an old Vauxhall)
