987,2 vs 981 gearing

How does the gearing on a 3.4 987.2 boxster S compare with the 981 in my case 981 spyder. I have sold my spyder and looking to buy a manual 987 and hoping the ratios are more road friendly.

Nigel,

I don't have the exact gearbox and final drive ratios to hand but I wouldn't expect there to be much difference between a 987.2 and 981. They both use the same DFI engine, although there might be a slight difference in the tune, so expect a very similar in-gear performance.

In other words, don't expect the 987.2 to have significantly shorter gearing, although it might be slightly shorter than that for your ex-Spyder.

same gearing
but the 981 has larger over all wheel/tyre size and revs higher.

so that = longer gearing, very noticeable imo if still a bit long.

peak in the 981 in 2nd was what about 84mph, in the 987 it's 77 or lower could be 74 I forget !.
as one changes gear below ultimate red line I have zero issues with 987.2 cars in manual.

btw have you thought about the 2019 MX5 ?

revs to 7500 and procduces max bhp at higher revs then your old 981 Spyder.
looks a great car now with this new rev hungry engine design knocking 0.8 seconds off the 60mph sprint.

what not to like ? I might get one.

Thanks for the info both.
Im sure MX5 is a fine car however the Porsche is as much about the associations I have built up over the years as it is the car so Im stuck with buying a Porsche.
So today things moved on and I have now collected the 987.2 3.4 manual and so far so good. The noise is feast or famine and in this its famine however I do prefer the sonorous induction aka 997 more than the borish bark of the later cars, its an age thing.
Mr Demon, as Im one to never be content is there a modest way to change this. I would like a little more if easily possible. Induction pipe or secondary cat delete , maybe both? Im not minded to invest too much cash in the car but not averse to some heavy diy.
