Washing Wheels with Twin Discs

Whenever I wash my grey Classic 11 wheels, which have been treated with Gtechniq C5 ceramic protection, I dry the wheels with my Sidekick blower and all seems well. Then I take the car for a drive and upon returning notice that the barrel of the wheels is covered with brown staining. Presumably this is from water retained between the discs. Anyone have any thoughts on how to prevent this please?

Your blower is a great piece of kit and if you direct it to the holes in the disc itself it should get rid of all the water held in there.

I have just small tins of compressed air that does the same job. Works for me.

John,

There's no way of preventing water building up in the vented discs. Other than taking the car for a short drive before final drying I think the only way to clear the water is to lift each wheel and give it a spin.

If I took mine for a short drive before drying it would need washing again[;)] Best way to prevent this is to upgrade to PCCB.......but not the cheapest way......

Thank you all. I will try blowing the air through the vent holes as Peter suggests.

On my wife’s 718 which has steel discs I use a blower and then take the car for a 5 mile drive Putting the car straight inside a garage without drying the wheels will lead to pitting in the areas where the disc pads are in contact with the disc unless they are completely dry. Don’t worry about the brown stain after the drive just wipe that off and then put the car away.

I combat the rust staining on the brake discs after initially watering the alloys to remove and small grit deposits I spray on a solution of Bilt Hamber Atom-Mac on to the discs which prevent rust forming from water. And this does make a difference in does preventing about 95% of rust forming. I also use a heated air blower to finish the job!
