718 FUEL CONSUMPTION

Apologies for me jumping onto the Boxster forum, but I was wondering if any 718 owners could give me some information.
My wife's car is coming up for change and being a Porsche owner myself for 30 years I was looking at trying to convince her to have a Boxster. At the moment she has a TT Roadster diesel, her second, but Audi have announced that they will not produce a new model diesel TT.
Her work commute involves a couple of 250 mile motorway round trips a week, so you can see why I am querying real world consumption on a Boxster.
So any information would be appreciated.

It depends how hard you drive it, only use mine on weekend so it varies between 25- 35 mpg, on a recent long run to Le Man Classic which was mainly motorway driving I was getting just over 40mpg

Hope this helps

A 250 mile round trip should comfortably see 40 mpg
i get high 30,s on my 981S on a motorway drive

Done approx 7,000 miles in mine now. Overall average is showing around 32mpg but our recent trip to France we were getting just under 40mpg on the longer trips - sticking to around 75-80mph & avoiding Autoroutes as much as possible. Non S with PDK gearbox.

Hi
I have run my 718s for 12000 miles.

The average consumption over 1100 miles (from the trip computer) is 30.4 mpg, today’s 90 mile jaunt, mixed motorway and A roads was 32.pg.

As reported, it is readily possible to better 40 but requires a restrained foot - not easy in such an addictive car!

K

Thanks for that........Problem is the Boss doesn't have a restrained foot, she is far worse than me!!!

Andrew, if you're worried about the cost of a bit of fuel, then it's not for you.

Unless you're just a dreamer, get over it, buy the 718 and enjoy.

David

Dreamer???
Thanks for that.....just placed a deposit on a build slot for a 992 for myself. I don't think aspiring to a Boxster is dreaming.

Hi there
Just got 45.7mpg in my 6 month old 718 Boxster over 227.5 mile trip at average 58 mph from Kent to Yorkshire via Dartford crossing, M25, M11, A14 A1

Thats the kind of information that will help the cause. Had another conversation with the boss yesterday on the subject. The only subject she keeps bringing up is fuel consumption. (she is extremely tight with money!)

Good luck!

I must say that I am astonished at the fuel consumption - average since new is 33.4 mpg including some very spirited driving, once run in, on some of our county's lovely roads.

hi abz2,
had a (vaguely) similar conversation with my other half not so long ago. So from that experience, I think maybe you're missing a dimension of the wider negotiation here - it's not just the positive that what the 718 will do (the good bit you're exploring) but also negative of the alternative - ie how bad the (diesel - bad stuff right, horrible taxation coming, catastrophic depreciation etc.) - with all that factored in, the 718 is the 'green' and sensible economic choice right?

Andrew,

Although psychologically important, I'm sure that if you run the figures the cost of fuel is a relatively minor contribution to the true cost of motoring after also taking into account finance, depreciation, insurance, maintenance and repairs.

My sentiments entirely, though maybe slightly better put.

My 718 Boxster is a daily driver and I've racked up 24,000 miles in 2 years. On my 15 mile commute to work (half of which is motorway) I'm getting 32, however on a longer motorway (on cruise control) runs she does 38 easily and when faced with mile after mile of average speed cameras I've seen over 45!!!

Absolutely. The financially astute decision would be to buy the TT and continue to run it. buying or leasing another new car will cost far more in depreciation. People do seem to be more affected by the cost that they see the they fill up than the huge finance payment leaving their bank account silently every month.
Fuel cost the major issue? Buy a Tesla
