Can someone help.....I am a new member and I have a 2003 Boxster S.....I have this horrible clonking noise coming from the front wheels when driving slow over speed humps or cracks in the road.....But it is only really noticeable after I have driven the car for about an hour, on short 10 mins trips its fine? I have search for other people with the same issue and people have all different remarks. some say the Drop Link some say the front fork control arms....you can sometimes feel it through the steering wheel but not all the time, but as soon as you accelerate to say over 30 mph it's OK, it only really happens when going slow.....has anyone got some advise on what I should replace?

David,

It has to be something associated with the front suspension or steering joints - control arms, ARB bushes, drop links, steering ball joints or strut top mounts or even the struts themselves.

Other than getting an assistant to bounce on the front wings while you check underneath, I think the only way to find out is to get the car on a lift and exercise the system with a big crowbar..!

HI JEFF...THANKS for coming back....last week I took the car to my local garage and we done all the investigation and they found nothing, they did replace something in the rear track rod arms I think as they were wearing out. but they could not find any thing with the front noise. but it was only today that I made a 1 hour journey that the noise can back, so I am guessing that its something that when gets hot makes the noise over speed humps ? as on my normal 10 min drive to work I don't get the noise it's driving me mad lol......

When I had my 996 C4S I had what sounds like the same problem. The local OPC could find nothing wrong but subsequently replaced the front drop links. Problem immediately solved.

Hi Don......thanks for that....I have a friend who is a Machanic and he said replace them as they are not that expensive at least it will rule that part out......
