window seal replacement

I've noticed on my 987.2 that the b-pillar window seal is worn out. the vertical bit on the drivers door side above the door handle where the glass touches the hood rubber - the seal thats part of the hood when it folds down covered in fluffy stuff and touches window glass when hood up. specifically the fluffy stuff has worn off and needs replacing.

in theory it should be a fairly easy clip off/clip on thing - so I've ordered a replacement seal and was going to fit it myself but can't find any instructions - has anyone done this and do you know how to remove the old rubber and replace please? had a good trawl around google and all I can find is pull it off and push on the new one - but that sounds a bit vague to me and I'm not confident it's referring to the same part.

all suggestions welcome

Interested in replies to this as mine has a similar issue...

As a matter of interest, how much was the seal?

Cheers.

design911 have the seals - cost about £170 or so - am hoping to avoid the shame of driving into OPC and asking them to fit it - but maybe that will happen. looks like it could be fiddly.

will have a better idea when I have the new seal I can try to figure it out if nobody else knows. so far my best guess is:
- hood nearly fully open
- one or two small allen bolts in the bottom end to unscrew
- clip at top end to lever out
- slide out of bottom of plastic channel
- slide in new one
- press in top clip
- refit bottom bolts

but that's just a guess at present - will have to have a closer look see when part here. I've googled everywhere and don't have any info. Was hoping someone on here might have done it or have a workshop manual with some instructions in it about this before I try to do something silly?

Richard,

You could PM Richard_Hamilton. He has access to a lot of Porsche technical information and may be able to help you.

Good luck..!

Jeff

tried Richard and he's having a dig around in the blurb to see what's what. thanks for the suggestion jeff.

part due to arrive tomorrow so will update after it's figured out in a week or two I hope

well the original OE part arrived, had a look at it and thought it seemed quite robust. So looked at how it clipped together (its in two parts), and soon discovered it is not robust. Seems to be made from recycled plastic coffee cups or something - bends a little and then snaps really easily. No prizes for guessing how I found that out!

as far as I can figure my installation guess above seems about right - but given the hard plastic carrier part with the clips is so brittle, I think I'm going to leave the installation to the OPC on this one.

Guys sorry to revive an old post but do you know if you can buy just the felt seal? Design911 sell the whole assembly (plastic, rubber and felt) and it is £200 per side but I only need the felt part

Many thanks in advance

no you can't - even if you could get just the felt bit you couldn't install it without the other bit as it's all one part and the fixings are needed on both bits. The felt and plastic mount is in two parts but fits as one piece. also I can pretty much guarantee from experience that when you try to remove the felt bit from the other bit, you'll break the clips you need to fit the replacement in - it's really brittle.

I gave up in the end and let OPC do it - all is well now.

I've heard of a few other folks trying 'spray on' fluffy felt stuff to patch it up - but not tried that myself. think you can get a can of it on amazon.
