718 servicing costs?

I know it’s early but has anyone enquired re 718 servicing costs - 2 year minor service obviously!
I got a cost from one dealer & it has to be wrong as it was more than all the current Porsche models - more than £800 then discount for PCGB membership taking it down to "only" £723. I was in total shock I didn’t have the heart to query it - luckily it wont be that dealer I’ll be using anyway. That also included brake fluid change.

Don't have a 718 myself and the Porsche site doesn't list the 718 series, but a 981 is £495 plus £95 for brake fluid change. That seems to be the ball park for most models minor service charge, unless you're in something like a GT3. So assuming there's nothing else they quoting for its seems a tad high.

I would be asking another OPC what there pricing is, and I would think whilst the 718 is not on the website they should have a booklet showing Porsche's prices. Be interested to hear what others say re pricing.

Shop round, sounds a lot, shouldn’t be more than for a 981 Boxster which is around £500 plus £95 for brake fluid change, all before any PCGB discount.

I paid £540 for first service and brake fluid last month for my 718. Hope this gives you an idea. Hope your enjoying your car as much as I am.

Thanks - that’s a great help & confirms what they’re quoting is plainly wrong. This is my 4th Boxster so it came as a shock to be quoted what they did.
The old debate re F6 & F4 turbo engines will continue for a while but have to say I love mine. Wasn’t a fan of the 981 rear styling so didn’t jump for that version so straight from a Gen2 987S to a 718 non S.
Out of curiosity which PC did you use?

PC
2 year minor service £430.00 (inspection £185.45 + parts £244.55)
Air con service £149.00
Brake fluid change £95.00
Total £674.00
05.09.2018

Included a vehicle health check free of charge! [:D]

Is it normal to require an air con service every two years on the 718?

Thanks

Neil

I was told that an air con service was required if I wanted to retain the opportunity to purchase an extended warranty.

David,

Unless things have changed since I purchased my 987.2 CS I'm not aware that an aircon service is an actual service requirement, rather a recommendation - and certainly not included in the 111-point check is it?

It sounds like a bit of a con to me, much like me being quoted £650 (with 10% discount) for a rear brake pad change recently - a mistake I'm sure.

Yes all servicing should be available at a Porsche FIXED price. Should have come with the car.
You will have to pay extra for some things
Ring other OPCs. WE have Chester and Wolverhampton near us

It uses LOTS of Oil. And HUGE amounts of Coolant (Porsche Coolant is well over 100.00)
and cleaning and flushing is a long job especially Bleeding the system to get rid of Bubbles (997 has a bleeder on top of the Engine which SHOULD help.

Brakes, Coolant, Brake Fluid and Air Conditioning recharge
Air condition fluid has gone through the roof recently. Even F1 and others are charging (pardon the pun) just under 100.00
Air Con takes about an hour
Connect up and then a totally un supervised auto pressure check which if OK replaces the Fluid
UN connect and check MAYBE 1/2 hour.
You need to get the Condensers check every 2 years to clear away at debris. My 996 had never been done No Damage. My 986 where totally shot. ie Remove the Front PU (Bumper) This should be part of the big service and takes about an hour (A LOT LOnger first time) but these guys at Porsche centre should know how to do it.

Its amazing how a lot of prices are FIXED ie over priced

I bought Brembo Discs and Pads from Eurocar parts - on line when prices where 50% on line for 230.00 inc VAT
Didn't need to do the Sensors as the previous owner had replace the Pads and Sensors but not the discs (THe Discs where rusted so NOT Bremo). Takes about 1.5 hours including jacking the car up (Which dealer does not have to do)
If the car is in good condition MAYBE 1 hour back and front)
Also did the Brake Fluid while it was in the air. Have a pressure bleeder

OK an update - Car now booked into local Porsche Centre for first service - 2 year fixed service cost £495 inc VAT. plus brake fluid change £95 inc VAT. Fair enough.
When I queried about Porsche Club discount the service receptionist said there was none on "fixed price servicing costs” - is that correct? They only offer 10% discount anyway but surely that was one of the reasons for being in PCGB?

Trevor,

I would expect the Porsche Centre price to reflect any discounts they wish to provide and so wouldn't necessarily give you an additional parts discount of 10% for being a Club Member.

For a minor service the only parts will be an oil filter and a cabin filter and so the Club discount would only be a few quid. It's a Porsche not a Ford, so just get used to paying through the nose for anything service-related..!

Thanks Jeff
This is my 5th Porsche so I’m used to their relatively high costs - just thought it was worth asking the question.
Having said that, Porsche servicing is nothing compared to previously owning a TVR Chimaera - now THAT was expensive to service (6,000 miles or every 12 months) - from memory an average yearly service was at least £800 but if you needed new tubular chassis parts, then from recollection around £1,300 all in (and we’re talking around 15 years ago!)
I’m expecting a large reduction in the spark plug replacement cost when that’s due - it’s lost 2 cylinders!! Mind I’ve always done that job previously myself along with replacing discs & pads.

Sorry Trevor, I didn't realise that you're a well-seasoned Porsche owner and therefore well used to the high cost of servicing and parts - even if they're not the exorbitant costs associated with TVR ownership..!

One thing to bear in mind is that the services are every two years, mitigating the apparently high costs to some extent.

Hope that although running costs are burning a hole in your pocket you're enjoying 718 ownership.

Jeff

That’s what I keep telling my wife. As you say it’s every 2 years so I don’t feel the pain so much! I don’t expect to pay peanuts for servicing on a top quality car so it’s no surprise.
The 718 is great even though everyone has something to say about the engine sound - it’s not the end of the world, just different. Fuel consumption is great on long journeys (we covered 8 countries & almost 3,000 miles last June/July on one of our regular European/French trips & fuel economy was in the high 30’s). Road tax is great at £190 as it’s a pre 1st April 2017 car. All my previous Boxster’s were serviced at Porsche Centres with any non servicing work (which was minimal) either done by independents or myself. Only consumables that need fairly regular replacement are tyres, brake pads & discs.
