Drive out, Stokesly, Hemsley, Rosedale Abbey via North Yorkshire Moors 5th of August

Hi All,

I'm planning a run out on the 5th of August over to the North Yorkshire moors via Stokesly, Hemsley, up through Hutton Le Hole with Lunch in Rosedale Abbey (The Coach Inn House) and then a blast back up via Goathland. I know its the Yorkshire car show on that day but I thought people who may not fancy it would like to go for a drive on our fantastic roads.

We'll be meeting at Dalton Park between 9.45 10.15 ready for a 10.30 departure. You can grab a coffee etc before we depart as there are plenty of coffee shops.

Have a great run guys, I just hope that not too many other members feel the same way, or are as open about it on the forum and start planning alternative events when our Witton Castle Show comes around.

Some of the best events/experiences I personally have enjoyed over the years have involved driving somewhere and parking up whether it's a field, pub car park, stately home or fish quay they are all the same to me.

Events like these have given me the opportunity to form some incredible friendships over the years as a Club member, something I couldn't do if I was just cocooned in my pride and joy with no interaction with others or only a few minutes to form an opinion of someone at each end. Surely fantastic static events such as, Witton Castle, R18's Cubrian International Show, R7's Festival of Porsche Show, Silverstone Classic or the Bywell Classic, to name just a few could be all too easily dismissed and unfairly labeled as simply "parking in a field".

For me, personally, events like these offer me the chance to chill and afford me some quality time to talk, bond, listen and take onboard what is important to all of our Club members and particulary their likes and dislikes. I've even learnt about previous ownership of my own car at shows like these, but as I always say it's horses for courses and one size really doesn't fit all.

What continues to make this Region so strong is it's camaraderie and members' ability to accept that not every everyone wants the same thing from an event, so if we manage to get it right some of the time I guess we are still doing ok.

Mark - you arrange to drive past my front door when I have already committed to Lotherton. Now if you set up somewhere for tea around 4pm, I could end up doing both.

Mark have you checked your route lately, North Yorkshire council do a lot of resurfacing work at this time of year putting down stones for us poor car owners to bed in for them. I checked on their website and you have a few roadworks on one or two of the villages that you mentioned. I know that they can change from week to week living in North Yorkshire my self, we have had the council change the date 3 times for closing our lane past our farm house . But if you have you can't get better roads than the North Yorkshire moors

Hi Graham,

Thanks for the heads up, I'll have a look and see whats what. We are spoilt for choice with the great roads around there so I'm sure we can avoid the road works.

Cheers

Just got back from a great day out.

Fantastic drive, great food, excellent company and, a stop off at The Crown, Hutton Le Hole, sitting watching all models of cars going past, rounded off a cracking day in the sunshine.

Thanks Mark and Wendy for organising it 👍

We would just like to echo what Chris and Pat have said about the run today. Had a real blast driving some fabulous roads, despite the best efforts of the nutter in the white Citroen! As new members we were made to feel very welcome and enjoyed a really good day. Thanks to Mark and Wendy for arranging and organising it.

Looking forward to next time,

Tony and Gill

That sounds a great route Mark. Pleased you had a good day - did you have a good turn out in the end ?

My son and I did it last month. A year on from the first time we toured the moors.

Great roads.

It was a cracking day, met for coffee at Dalton Park. Headed down to Porsche Teeside to pick up some other members. Found a great cross country road from Porsche centre in to Stokesly and then blasted down to Rosedale via, Helmsley and Hutton le Hole. Great three our lunch in the Coach House Inn and a good natter. Then back over to Hutton Le Hole, (another drink) and then back the way we came. It did hit 30 degrees at one point.

Great to be out on our fantastic roads doing what these awesome machines were made for; driving on some of the greatest roads in the UK.

Thanks to the guys and girls that turned up.

Cheers

Sounds like a great day out, always nice to discover new roads too - especially when they’re good!

We really are lucky that we have such a wide variety of areas with great roads in our Region. That, coupled with the number of active members we have means that there’s always something going on for people to get involved with.

As Chris Seaward often says, “PCGB is a broad church“ and I think our Region reflects this, with lots of different activities going on to include all interests.
