Too much of the stuff! Heard a little pink flat in 5th the other night, looked down, 25psi ffs. Turned MBC down a bit. Same. Turned way down. Same. What do we think? Waste gate stuck shut or MBC failure or a line disconnected? Not had a proper look yet. Using a Lindsay DPW. Worth noting exhaust was disturbed to change gearbox last week.

Thoughts please chaps.

Stuart

Possibly disturbed the wastegate pipes whilst in there which will not help ! Did you get my reply mail regards afm ?

You heard it detonate over the sound of the engine flat out, what injectors are you using?

No Frenchy not got a pm. Will check.

Blade, yeah little pink and backed off. My car is not really noisy at full chat. Windows were closed which helps. Running standard injectors with 3 bar fpr. Could never get it to run right with 55lbs injectors and the chips I've got. Goes fine with standard. Do have an uprated fuel pump. Must have hit about 27psi when it pinked which is understandable.

I ran my Capri Injection turbo and Escort RS turbo up to the ragged edge of detonation, but only heard the tinkle in the mid range. The rings may not have been in one piece when I sold the Capri though.

Yeah it was mid range in 5th just as the boost loaded up way past what it should have. I too have detonated a few Fords to death. Destroyed a few CVH engines on RS turbos after winding up the actuator!

My 86 RS turbo had a turbo technics upgrade with amongst other things switchable low/high boost. I wound up the boost to max on the low setting by mistake, when I flicked the switch to high boost it accelerated like f*** and detonated like it too.

Love the 'RS' talk....it's a bit of a coincidence as my son has just put his RS Cab back on the road after being laid up at his friend's garage for 6 years when his clutch failed at Ford fair...Would you believe that in less than two weeks, he fixed the clutch, MOT'd it and stripped the car and gave it a complete respray....in 2 weeks???? amazing what one can do when you put your mind to it.....BTW this is a highly modified car, A 2.0 ltr Zetec short block mated I assume to a CVH head...I can't remember all the details but do recall having the block on my Mill table for some machine work that my son asked me to do for him. It's a beast with a proven 325bhp, it's in a metallic royal blue like Ford had, not sure if it's an actual ford colour though. Easily spotted with a 'RSH Performance' windscreen sun visor if anyone comes across a fast Ford cab in North London...:)

Pete

RS Escort Cab Pete? I'm not sure Ford ever put one into production. Though I think Turbo Technics converted some XR3I cabs that may have been sold through Ford dealers. I've also heard all you need is the VIN plate and a log book from a rotten RS shell and anything can be 'restored' these days.

It's a custom job Paul....he converted it, as I said it's a Zetec bottom end with CVH head...looks fairly standard on the outside except for the boot spoiler with built-in brake light, it has a dark blue mohair hood to complement the paintwork. He has fitted it with a full genuine RS body kit although he hadn't put the arches back on when I saw it as they were still drying in the booth, I'd expect them to be fitted by now.

I've had a couple of Mk4 cabs which I dropped an RS turbo engine in to. I also done an Orion RS turbo conversion as well, white with RS skirts and a sapphire cossie type rear spoiler. Looked the business! I did one actual RS turbo with a zetec bottom end, 2.1L, about 300bhp, stupid quick car that was! Must have had at least 12 cars with an RS turbo engine in them, 1 x Mk3, probably 7 x Mk4, the 2 cabs, the orion and also 1 x Fiesta RS turbo! Those were the days!

haha.. your past car's sounds so much like our's...:) this is my second son's present project, it's come on a little further since these photos were taken, now has windows, rear whale tail, front lights, bumpers etc etc...

That's my eldest son in the first photo, picture was taken at his place, the car was taken here by my second son on his large trailer behind his pickup. Some jobs can only be done at my eldest place, complete bare shell respray for example.

a side view...the plan is to get the car back on the road this year, we shall see...:)

Very nice! Is it a genuine cossie?
yes, he bought the bare shell with supporting logbook, involved after a lot of searching a trip across the Irish sea with trailer in tow...I believe it's a rally spec example, used to be white....he has spent the last few years sourcing the parts, the engine is from his old Cossie as it's already highly modified...I think he's doing some more mods to the engine before putting it in. I drove his old cossie with this engine, silly car, massive turbo with big lag which then kicked in like a hammer....not my style of driving but it's how my son likes to drive, literally hang on for dear life...adds a bit more excitement I guess.....:)

I only had one, a series 1 RS Turbo with the TT uprate, it was 3 years old when I bought it. Didn't get on with it TBH, so replaced it with a 3 door Cosworth, kept that for 13 years.

Nice car the 3 door Paul...my boys have had far more cars than I...my first was a mk2 cortina, it became a bit of a custom job, (I was young) big scoop, side pipes, jacked up with lights under the axle, etc etc...but hey this was the early 80's and the Saturday night Chelsea cruise was the 'in thing' ..:)

I've had a sapphire cossie but never a 3 door. Lovely cars. I did have a lookalike at one point but all the show and no go is not my thing!

I went down to the cruise a few times [:D]. Didn't the snooty lot in the big houses get plod to stop it?

Maybe I've got rose tinted specs, but the Cos seemed to accelerate harder in 1st and 2nd gear than my 944T. It felt more planted flat out too.
