Broken Boxster

Although a recent member, I'm going to be out of commission for quite a while due to the poor Boxster being diagnosed with cylinder problems. The camera showed the extent of the scoring problem and it's not pretty! So engine block off to Hartech for a brutally costly repair [:'(]. Anyone out there who will lend me something like a 911 GT3 RS for a couple of months can be my friend for life. Ha Ha, we must smile through the trials of life, and Porsche ownership.

Sorry to hear that.

Wish your car a speedy recovery and hopefully not to expensive when it comes to paying the bill.

Sad to hear about your beloved Boxster Kevin, especially as you have just got so involved with Club life. I hope you can get it sorted fairly quickly. Don't feel you can not join in though, unless its a Porsche display please feel free to join us anytime in your daily driver be a shame for you to miss out.

Hopefully it won't be expensive. Warranty can be a wonderful thing, it's just being without it during what seems to be the best Summer for years is going to be hard to bear.

Gut wrenching, sorry to hear that. On a positive note, you could get Hartech to rebuild it to 3.9 spec while you're on. 370BHP would make for a very rapid machine.

Good luck with the repair hope its not too expensive Have they given you any idea about when it will be finished Me Ive got a Boxster but cant drive for 4 weeks Wonder if my new knee cost the NHS more than your rebuild At least its not a catastrophic failure Regards

Hi Kevin

Just out of interest what symptoms were you getting? High oil consumption, Smoking, or noise, and did they do a compression test as well?

Good luck

Andy

The symptoms were unusually high oil consumption and constant sooting of the exhaust tips. I took it in to Gary at D&G who in turn took it to bits and showed me cylinder No.6 (last one left bank) with the inspection camera. The scoring was very obvious and the spark plug was very dirty. Other than that the car is tip top in all respects. The dilemma now comes from how much I want, or can afford, to spend when the block goes to Hartech for repair. For all it would be desirable to have all the cylinders relined with Nikasil, the cost is very high and with some opinions leaning toward only attending to the three on the left bank, where the scoring tends to occur, I am thinking about the options. Oh woe! Oh woe!

Isnt Niksil the problem But Hartech are apparently really good if you take the whole car to them they have long lead times but I guess an engine build would be more reasonable Don't forget their full warranty would probably need them to do the work Good Luck - I too am out of commission cant drive for 31days (30 now)

Cant even leave the house at present but every day marks a day nearer
