I've recently chopped in my 997 C4S for a very tidy SSE. I won't be using this car on a daily basis, I have an old 356 for that, so I was thinking along the lines of taking the SSE to the next level and possibly going for concourse events. However I am not sure what scale of preparation is required for this. Does all the suspension have to be detailed, similarly would the engine and transmission have to be like new. I certainly wouldn't go to the extremes like you see with the Pebble Beach entrants with enclosed trailers and tyre covers, but I'm ready with cloth, polish and maybe the odd q-tip, but some information would be appreciated.

Unless the car has been sitting in a air cooled bubble for the last 30yrs I wouldn't bother , the standard for concourse is far to high and most of the cars are never driven and are as new , to get to this standard every nut and bolt is nice and shiny ,I have even seen people cleaning the tyre treads with polish which I think is a bit to far
You have a great car there ( I have one a well) drive the thing you can still show it and lots of folk will admire it

Thanks Mike, I've seen these geeks in the States do that when prepping their cars for shows, I just thought the UK side might be a little less anal but it would appear I'm wrong, so, as you suggest I shall just keep the beast as best as I can and maybe raise a few eyebrows at my local classic car meets. My SSE is utterly gorgeous, engine and trans rebuilt, bodywork faultless, I'd keep it in the lounge if I could but it would just get in the way of the TV, however I will drive it as much as I can!

I've also got an SSE, although mines a Cabrio. Genuine 82,000 miler, Grey metallic and a cracker to drive.
At the moment she's in the 'doghouse' as she refuses to lock and stay locked. I don't mind showing her off to anyone invited but I don't want her left open for every Tom, Dick and car thief to nick.

I have been involved with the National club concours for a while now. I also entered concours with my SSE but that's some time ago now..
By your post you are obviously interested in entering concours.

Concours at National level has two separate classes. Pride of Ownership and Concours d'elegance (CDE)

As the names suggest Concours d'elegance is for cars that are at the top of their game. Around 30 cars
each year ranging from the 50's to the cars you can buy at your Porsche centre today. Expect to drive onto a plinth and have
at least four judges descend on the car. Also have a few words of interest about your car since entries normally
have a chat with the compere/MC of the event.

Pride of Ownership. A bit more relaxed and judging less stringent than above. Usually a larger entry of around 50 cars. Entries come from across the range of cars and judges take a walk around the entries.

First, second and third prizes for each Class plus a Spirit of Concours award. In the previous couple years no one has gone home empty handed. Gifts to all in both classes have included Cleaning kits and commemorative medals.

Events are normally held at great venues where the cars are the stars. My suggestion to you would be enter as Pride of ownership for the first year. This is a good starting point and you can take a look at the CDE and see the standard.

If you contact our club office Im sure they will send you Rules and Regs and also the marking sheets for both classes from out 2018 event which was held at Ragley Hall.
