The end

I've decided to sell my 993RS - finally made the decision after much agony. The cost of track day insurance has gone through the roof - my first year of ownership cost my £440 including 5 track days. When the values went up, I had to change insurers and they wouldn't include track days. Last year, the quote for the Oulton Park RS day was £5k plus £15k excess, so that pretty much did it for me. It's just taken me 15 months to get off my a**e!

Had a last drive on Friday last week as I dropped it into Camerons for fettling and sale. I'm going to miss it hugely, but if I can't track it, then it really insn't being used properly. I've got a potential replacement in a '73 2.4T restoration project (probably as an S/T) and am looking at an SR8 or RXC for track days.

its a shame that so many owners are being forced out of ownership, simply because the enjoyment nt has gone as the costs spiral for insurance as values climbed.

why not build or buy a proper 3.8 clone, 993 rs, that way you still have the pleasure but without the worries or do you just fancy the purity of an early air cooled?

you could always build a long nose 993 to combine the latter epic handling with the purity of the early looks?

Thats my next project...

Thats a shame mate,i run my 993rsr uninsured but only use it on quality days such as pcgb,rs day and gt90 legends.
the real cost does not change much what ever car you drive, labour rates are the same.
a replica is never the same as the real deal.
st are great fun but need 250 to 300bhp to be real fun on track,i have the perfect suspension kit for a st or rsr custom made by intrax with coil overs etc, give me a shout when you are ready.

the car's back home! Insured via Manning, so track days covered. Out for a blast today - it's such a great car - and off to Bicester next weekend for the Cylinder Club meet.

What track days are on the horizon?

Cylinder Club meet at Bicester this coming Sunday (7 Oct) - should be a good drive up via Bibury

anyone else going?
