Better sound wanted from Exhaust

Morning one and all, looking for some advice regarding upgrading the exhaust. Don't want to spend thousands but looking between £500 to £800 to improve the sound more than add power.

Any body fitted a exhaust muffler bypass X-pipe ? If so was it worth it ?

I see that some companies can weld a chunk of pipe in but not sure i want to start add additional points of failure.

Tks

Morning!

Yes, the x-pipe is a great addition. Easy to reverse before resale too if you need to.
I have a 997.2 C2 with PSE. It was still too quiet. So I got the X-pipe from designTek here cheap at under £400 and don't forget to get the club discount, however the website is offering discount now for the 70Years Anniversary. Its top quality and provided a nice little rattle of the exhaust and a much nicer note between 3.5k-6k rpm. I have since disconnected my PSE solenoid so the pSE is open all the time. Its perfect now. No drone either.

You could do it yourself but be prepared to cut off the old brackets from the centre muffler which there are two of. They are either £40 each or £80 each from Porsche.....and the hardest part of the corroded bolts at the CAT side. I spent a few hours at that part but I replaced them with 304 stainless steel ones, so wont have that problem again.
See the pic of mine attached.

Hi ” sherkwerks” bypass exhaust every time for me around £800 if I remember correctly works with pse button
look them up their website or youtube run in califipornia by expat Andy Ross - can import hasstle free via Regal motorsport or others
totally reversible in 1 hour if required by any good Porsche independent or OPC
had mine for 4 years - fantastic
regards

I've done the Milltek 'X' pipe with PSE and it's better than it was - but not amazing. it sounds much better from outside the vehicle than from the inside - which can sound quite tame IMO. I've also tried unplugging the actuator inside the engine bay and you then get full PSE on all the time. You get a lot more volume at lower RPM and lower road speeds. I've since plugged it back in as my OCD was driving me nuts about having something 'un-plugged'.

Hi Delboystoy,

Just got back from having the Carnewal GT fitted to my Cayman 987 and I couldn't recommend it highly enough: www.carnewal.com/Exhaust

There's loads of clips on Youtube of the sound including drive by's etc. The great thing about it is you exchange your rear end for the Carnewal GT which helps keep the costs down enormously. Gert Carnewal the owner fitted mine in an hour which included dealing with the rusty studs. In the meantime my son and I were sat in the waiting room adorned with high end manufactured Porsche accessories and his charming wife brought out a much needed jug of coffee and snacks for us. Gert has fitted over 1300 993 exhaust conversions alone and is a master of his craft. The sound you get is a growl as you can probably tell from the YT clips. It is the antithesis of the boy racer sound. This is the real deal and would fall within your budget. The shuttle over there was easy. Cost about £80 for a day return plus the fuel there and back. Alternatively, you could order the part from Carnewal and Northway Porsche near Reading can fit it for you and organise the shipment back of your old exhaust. They reckon they can do the replacement between 1 and 2 hours and when I checked a few weeks ago were working on a 4 week lead time. Alternatively you could email Carnewal and ask if they'd ship to an Indy near where you live. You know it makes sense!!

Cheers,

Stu

Another vote for Carnewal....Gert is a bona fide legend across the Porsche Forum landscape, and immensely helpful / genial re responding to general enquiries (lots of clips of his products on YouTube too)...well worth "kicking tyres" with him as an option

Thanks to one and all, a lot to think about however after some kind person has just driven in to my passenger door and driven off I guess I need to get that fixed first before getting any more upgrades.

Hi,

This may be a little late, but I had a Hayward & Scott exhaust fitted, sounds really good and was not expensive, from memory £400.00 for the pipes and £200.00 for the fitting.
