Hi I'm the RO for North East region, I've had a call from an ex member who is thinking of selling his car. Brief details are, a 2 owner 994 S2 first registered March 1991, 75K miles, belts changed at 68K, new water pump, Crystal silver with Blue pinstripe interior. full history file including MOTs, armourfend fitted to front end. Its a rubber spoiler model. Current owner since July 99.

An idea on price please guys

Its difficult to say without seeing the car. Condition and service history is everything with these cars, less so mileage, time of belt change is more important than at what mileage. If the bodywork is solid and the cars in overall great condition you may stretch to £4500 - £5500, although some concours cars can be had for that. Edd

Difficult one Ashley - as you know there is huge variation in price for S2 models. Even looking on Ebay there are a few "decent looking" models around the £2.5k mark. However, this is low mileage, low owner car - I'd be in the £4k-£4.5k bracket perhaps but that assumes so many variables. The low miles may be great in some respects but is it on the original clutch? The original suspension? There are so many variables!

Thanks Ed, I've not seen the car myself but chatting to the chap on the phone he said its in very good condition, and has the all important service history, belts and water pump changed recently. He was thinking between £6k -£7k which I thought a tad optimistic.

It would really need to be special I think to justify that, ultra low miles or a concours cab perhaps. No harm in starting high though, he may get lucky. One thing I found when my 944 was at the classic car show in 2009 was how many people didnt realise just how cheap these cars are now, some of them would have thought £6-7k was realistic, depends on how much home work they do I suppose. Ashley, get him to give me a call if he wants, but the advice here is all good. He needs to take really good pics of the problem areas for an advert; showing the inside of the sills, wing bottoms etc. Not clever angle pictures of the interior hiding the worn seat bolsters so people are disappointed when they view it, that sort of thing. Classic problems with low-milers are the clutch, if it's not been replaced it will be likely to need doing, fuel and brake lines are going to be near the end of their life now, and caliper corrosion is likely to be an issue. The belts have a life of 4 years max, and often this is missed on cars not covering many miles. The timing chain, and all the guides, rollers, oil seals etc. could well need changing at the next due belt service if not recent. Not saying any of these are an issue with this car, just what needs to be put in an ad if the car is to stand out and be worth a higher-than-average price.

If none of the parts have been replaced, as people have mentioned so far, stay clear and look for one which has had all the work done - you will be looking at maybe £6k for clutch, suspension, brakes, fuel lines any sill work ,belts, chains etc. I bought an S2 last year which has had all items replaced and also head skimmed etc for £2.5k Still going strong at 171k miles Nick [:D]
