Virgin owner needs advice

I am thinking of buying my first Porsche.

I have about £20k to spend.

From what I can make out, I am just about into early 1990's RHD 964 C2 teritory. Whatever I buy, I don't really like Targa's or convertibles. No offence to present owners!

What's the score re C2's as an everyday car at this price point, do they give trouble or are they pretty reliable?

Am I making a mistake with the 964 at this money?

Thanks

No offence taken[:)]
£20k should get you a very good one. You are looking at getting a '92 or even a '93
As far as reliability goes as long as it has been serviced regular it will run forever.
Invest in some good reading material on 964's as it will guide you in the right direction. Adrian Streather has written an excellent book on this matter and even my car features in it [;)]
Mine is a '91 and apart from changing the steering rack and getting it serviced thats all I have had to to.
Not bad considering it is nearly 13 years old!!

Don't dive in. See as many as you can.
Try to buy from an from a club member if possible.
I looked in the small ads on and off for a long time.
One piece of advise I was given-----------------buy on condition---------not colour, big wheels etc.
I ended up with a fantastic C2 1990 50,000 on the clock, previous owner 12 years who I still keep in touch with.
ps Had a 1985 944 lux for 12 years before the C2.
Happy stress free hunting.

What's the score re corrosion then, at 15yrs old are they starting to rot? I assume the engines are bomb proof...

I bought my first Porsche 3 months ago, for a few k less, my budget wasn't as large as yours, got a left hand drive 964 C2. Having wanted a 911 since I was 7, it was worth the 32 years of waiting!! My car is thoroughly reliable. Starts every time, runs like a dream and I do a round trip of 90 miles a day commuting to work. My car is in excellent nick, mainly due to the previous owner (Thanks Dave!!) and I really enjoy every moment of driving it. Find your local supplier of Mobil 1 and Shell Optimax garage and you will be fine!
Good luck!

All excellent advice given.
But how ever much that you fall in love with the car that you are looking at, or who ever is selling it. Get it checked out by an Independent Porsche Specialist ( not the AA or RAC)
An inspection will cost about £ 150 but it may save you £ thousands.

Best of luck,
Looking forward to you joining Porsche Club GB and our 964 Register
