Urgent Starter motor fitting issue

Hi guys,

As recently posted i was struggling to get my 944 2.5 to start and the solenoid was needing a regular tap.

I went and bought a new starter (LUCAS) from ECP and fitted it with no real issues apart from the small 8mm bolt for the ignition snapped due to tightening the nut too much but i was able to remove one of the washers and managed to fit the nut on still.

When i went to start the car the ignition comes on but the battery volt meter etc were all reading 0 and on turning the key nothing happened.

I thought the battery might be dead or low as the car has not been driven for a few days, this caused the car the try and turn over even with out the key being in the ignition.

I'm sure something very glaringly obvious has gone wrong but i'm able to figure it out with out tinkering too much and risk blowing fuses etc.

You haven't connected all the wires to the same terminal have? There are two terminals. The permanent live for the motor and the switched live for the solenoid.

Hi Rob,

No not connected all up together mate, i'm hoping to get back underneath the car on monday to see whats going wrong.

The 2 large cables still go to the motor and the smaller 1 goes to the solenoid.

All sorted!

Got under the car this morning, basically the main power cables were arcing (too close) to the ignition cable.

Car starts up great. It sounds a lot different though, more of a whooshing sound compared to a more chungging sound before.

It does fire up nice and quick so no complaints, another reason might be because its a Lucas unit rather than the standard Bosch.

It will be rebuilt by Lucas but it will be an old Bosch unit
