SC paint code

I have a '78 Guards Red SC on which I have a small paint chip that I've decided to let 'Chips-Away' repair. The paint code tag in the left A-pillar is 027 which I believe is correct for my car. However in the 'Chips- Away' book the red is a different code and this correlates to an Indian Red. I thought Guards Red was the only Red paint option for early SCs. Am I right? The Red Book has it as 027 too.

I read somewhere that, in fact, the colour called Guards Red, on cars like ours, was really called Indian Red. I don't know if this means that Guards Red was an earlier colour.

Can't remember where I read this.

Thanks John I've just had the same info from another forum so the evidence for Guards Red being the same as colour as Indian Red is building up. I'm so glad Porsche aren't Dulux or Crown!

HI BONES, ONLY READING ON ANOTHER WEB SITE LAST WEEK ABOUT the colour of yours.
the colour guards red was only used on 911s upto 84 (the 3.2) have never been in guards red renamed indian red then changed agian to india red, but is the same colour. only porsche can explain the reason i suppose.
so all the people who think they have a gusards red 3.2 carrera infact don't....

On my Guards Red car there is a paint label 'Indischrot' which translates as 'Indian Red'. They are undoubtedly the same colour.

At the factory, the red topcoat was applied over a basecoat of Carerra White - worth bearing in mind if you are refinishing larger areas.
