Morning all,

Long time since I've frequented - hope everyone is well ! Unfortunately someone decided to collide with me on the A14 couple of weeks ago :( and the insurance are attempting to write the car off. Does anyone have any recommendations on body repair in Worcestershire please?

:( Cheers Dave..

Ouch! Hope you get it sorted, insurers would definately try to write that off in my experience.

Have you got an agreed-value on it? If you can repair it yourself that's going to be straightforward with used parts, but insurers tend to only use new parts and you can imagine the total! [&o]

I can supply all the bits you need secondand if you want. Have a good wing, front bumper, badge panel, headlamp pod, etc.
Would be a shame to write it off. Doesn't look a bad job to repair.

Ouch that looks oh so familiar

My repair was iirc £3500 a couple of years ago so beyond economical repair

You could always ask if they were prepared to offer Cash in leiu of repair/writeoff

Thanks for the replies so far guys !

I may take you up on your offer Alastair.

I've spoken to Doug at Exeter Porsche and also the manager of the body repair centre where the car is currently located (Porsche Approved Centre).

They've realised I'm not gonna be very happy if they write it off as total loss so are going to do there best to "tweak" the quote. If they cannot do anything then I'm going to aim to settle for a suitable amount and the salvage of the car, then get the parts 2nd hand and do as I can myself (e.g. headlights and maybe bumper) and have the rest done by a bodyshop.

Need somewhere local really - found a place called "Worcester Classic Cars" which looks trustworthy :)

Cheers

Dave

Dominic at Specialist Vehicle restorations or Rob at http://www.raceresto.com/; he is based in Pershore and I have seen some very good work!

It is a rotten accident, but keep the faith- it can be repaired and a proper bodyshop will make it fabulous again.

Regards,

Bert

Best of luck with the repair, everytime I drive mine and someone sits an inch from my rear all I can think about is the conversation with the insurance company...
Please post a pic when she is fixed.

There was another thread that mentioned Classicline policies now having a clause where you can take a reduced settlement but buy the car back at a very good rate. An interesting way forward, perhaps they are realising that you can't write every old car off by insisting on new parts and an expensive bodyshop for the repair. We also need to lower our expectations and avoid costs like courteousy cars, whiplash injury claims etc.

Not wishing to bang on, but it's a good excuse to remind people that agreed-value policies are essential. You would be surprised to see what the book price is on your car, that's your insurer's price if you want to claim. Do a wefleeceanycar.com valuation if you want a wake-up call here. Get an agreed value, club valuations are free for heaven's sake, if a bit slow!
