Could I ask for some advice please?

I am a long term Porsche owner (993RS but am putting in an order for a Cayenne Diesel S, my first Cayenne.

What are the must have options and what is unneccessary/worth avoiding?

Any wisdom or advice gratefully received!

 
kept mine pretty simple, standard suspension, 14 way seats, elec tow bar, PCM + phone + USB, sensors front and rear, under sill protectors, privacy glass and 21 inch (allweather) wheels/tyres. 3 months in to ownership and "happy as Larry" - although mine is the standard diesel and not the 'S'.
 
The pano roof is great, as is air suspension. Personally like the Multi function steering wheel and cruise. Makes life easier on long runs. The Diesel S sounds a winner btw.
 
My diesel is 4 months old. I went the same route as Peter - I thought cruise was standard? In addition I had 21" wheels and added a 19" winter set via my OPC in October - well worth having IMHO, almost essential. What are the most used extras for me? Heated seats, steering wheel heater - worth their weight in gold in the past couple of weeks. I rarely go out presently without using them. I have only one criticism of the car - I had the rear camera fitted and it's great for reversing until, you actually need it and have been driving along muddy roads. At which point it is so obscured as to be completely useless. I have to clean it every day if I want to use it. Surely it must be possible to include a washing system for it, especially at the cost it is!!! I also went for the sports body kit, which makes it look great, especially with the sports pipes. Overall, delighted with the car and would have another without hesitation. Was refuelling today and a guy said "great looking car mate" - rare indeed for Porsche drivers to be so complimented - it's usually something derogatory!!
 
As I know has been said before, including in a recent post, it depends what you are using the car for. I stick by what I said then, try both and make up your own mind. Those that have steel seem to think it's perfect for them, those that have air think the same. Try both.
 
If I was ordering a Cayenne again any time soon it would be a keeper like my current one,I would order it next time with no sunroof,simpler and less to worry about as it gets older,my seals are ok on my 06 but they look weathered and will need changing eventually.For a long term car I would not order air suspension if there is a choice of good old fashioned springs,lovely when new and under warranty a pain in the rear after some miles and years.
 
I recently tried a diesel with air and another with steel springs. The steel springs gave a very compliant, nice ride. I ordered steel springs with PASM, so I could play with it. Rob
 
I drove air and no-air suspension diesel cayennes back to back on the Porsche Silverstone handling track. The difference was huge!! The air one felt tight and smooth around the whole lap. The non-air one felt like it was 1 tonne heavier... I would never willingly drive a non-air Cayenne again.
