Number plate light unit. Spare anyone?

Hi Guys,

While I admire Porsche's quality engineering across the model and year range, I have this afternoon turned the air blue because of what appears to be a ridiculous number plate light design.
Offside has blown, and quick glance at the handbook gives advice to tackle this from inside the boot. Others suggest going at it from the outside and undoing the two screws to reveal the festoon bulb.
Well in a nutshell, I've made a balls of both and now need a new unit with connector please. Can any kind soul oblige? If so, a PM and £ would be much appreciated. I'm off for a gin and valium....

Thanks for the PM Gerry - tried to send one back, but access is 'denied' - computer says 'NO!'...;) Your offer to check your supply at the end of this week would be much appreciated.

Well, judging by the mess I made of mine, I'm not best qualified to answer...! However, manual suggests via inside the boot, so I'd see if that works for you. The unit and connector are visible from there and seeing as I've chewed up a screw head on the outside lens, I'm happy to leave it well alone if I can.

ok will have a go and report back. No way can see if it's on there from my photo:

... how do I get it off, inside or out?
They are a mess to get off. I tried changing the bulb in one of mine a couple of years ago and was dismayed by the effort it took.

I ended up cutting the bolts off with a dremel, which allows you to remove the light housing and change the bulb. I then replaced the bolts with some stainless steel, insert-head hex ones, with nylock nuts. (Sounds very grand, but they are just nuts and bolts like this:

... but smaller. M4 I think.)

They won't corrode and will come out more easily when necessary. (And, typically, I haven't had to remove them again since!)

Oli.

Hi Jonk, been down to the car, tried to get them off (from the outside) and the black inner parts have just broken up. They are as brittle as burnt toast.

So it's down to D911 with you life savings I'm afraid. Sorry.

Gerry

Hi Jonk,
Price for new lamps from OPC £13.10 each - 10% (pcgb) + vat
Part No. P477.943.021
I have a pair of new ones to fit, car is not kept at home so don't know when I will get round to fitting them, if you still need them when I have you will be welcome to the old ones.

Lads -- thanks so much -- Gerry esp, for having a go to hack yours off. Right, partial success here, though I have lost two crucial bits. I have managed to get the old bulb out from inside the tailgate. In the process however, the small black plastic securing clip and the tiny metal connector that sits on top of the black clip with the other end connecting to the car wire have vanished.
So, would anyone simply have these bits, as with a new bulb, the thing should burst back into life...?
The bloody Blackpool lights will have taken less effort than this job...[:'(]
Many thanks for the help so far

!!!!SUCESS!!!!!! But, My God what a pain in the arse....Dremelled the rusted screws out, and released the unit. Found another buld that a previous owner had dropped inside the light (bonus!) then re assembled. Soldered some wire directly to the bulb and modified the mini spade connection to a larger more standard version. Heath Robinson probably, but I have light there and one less thing to fail the MOT as we head towards March.
Thanks for the offers of help everyone.
