New Owner saying Hi

Hi, I bought this a couple of weeks back, 1991 S2 cab with 115,000 miles which is in pretty good condition and has had a lot of work done, six grands worth, things like respray, 4 new tyres on refurbed wheels, SS exhaust, clutch, suspension, brakes and so on, really nicely looked after.

It will need some small rust issues sorting on the NS, patch on the bottom of the front wing, little scab ont he far end of the sill in front of the wheel (rest looks fine) and reapinting behind the wheels as its knocked the stonechip off, nothing that worries me as we have a Fiat 500 of the old variety and I am used to a little bit of welding and painting. Other than that think the PAS belt needs nipping up, windows need looking at as move at a glacial pace and perhaps a few squeaks and rattles attending to but it is such fun to drive, came from a Saab 9-3 Aero with a few tweaks and this feels pretty much as quick but so much more engaging. Was worried being a cab it may be a bit floppy but it isnt.

So, few little jobs, plus it will have been four years since its last belt change (and 20k) in September so think I will get one done before then, it had them all done with new cams, tensioners, chains etc, engine seems spot on good oil pressure and pulls like a train, am I ok to leave the belts until Sept or is that too long ?

Owner was a Porsche nut and now has a 993 and would have kept it but for a lack of space, wasnt for sale at the point I heard about it but was waiting for the summer so feel lucky, initially is disregarded it as I asumed I needed a 944 Turbo, preferably with 300 plus bhp, maybe one day but this is hitting the spot now, it being a cab brings an adde dimension and I got the roof down briefly for the first time yesterday.

Also thinking of some upgrades, gear linkage is a bit sloppy and it has that slight judder when downshifting to second which I beleive is mapping so theory is a Remapped Eprom will get rid of this for £50, is this a correct assumption ? also considering a decat, mainly for a bit more noise but I beleive you have to be carefull as it can get raspy, any suggestions.

Also, would liek to upgrade the audio a little it has a Kenwood head unit which is past its best, dont want Subs and loads of amps but a little more punch would be good, it has four speakers of the 6 by 4 variety so was thinking what are the options to put either better ones in or locations for something a bit bigger without carving the interior up, would upgraded stadard size speakers make any difference, think these are the originals.

Any other tips greatfully received !

Hi Jacko, welcome to the forum and 944 ownership!
I was following your posts on PH, looks like you have got yourself a good one!

I too came from a SAAB 93 Turbo, with the full Abbott Racing Viggen Rescue kit and chip (and 5 other SAABs and a Sccoby before) and agree that there is a world of difference in driving experience
I have fixed your picture post, you can't just paste them in like on PH, you have to paste the link in after clicking on the 'image' box

Hi Jacko and welcome, nice sharp looking cab you have there.
Should not worry about the sounds just yet, you wil probably spend most of the time listening to your car with a big grin on yer face.

Hardly ever have mine on now and I have had mine 10 1/2 years now!!

Enjoy

Hi and Welcome
Looks great, summer will be here as soon as the snow has gone!
Dont bother with the stereo, you cant hear it properly with the hood down[:D]
Sort the sills, they are the important bits.
Should have been going to Rutland tomorrow but looks like thats off, so you get a chance to show it off[;)]

Starting with SN Ive used the name GC8, but a friend enrolled me here as '944 man' after my confirmation as GC8 got lost in my spam filter.

Shh, dont tell J4ckos mate I am over here :D

Bloody hell this is just like Scoobynet with some different names, I tend to lurk more on Pistonheads these days, MX5NUTZ are a really good bunch but I ended up with the 944 instead of the MX5, its kind of like a podgier MX5 a 944 Cab !

Loving the car, just not getting much chance to drive it at the moment, or fiddle about with it, want to make the windows move faster than a small glacier.

This forums a lot friendlier Mark - like SN used to be and very, different to PH, which is a good thing..

I am generally oblivious of any unpleasantness, I just get on with it.

Loving my 944, it is so much fun and quicker than I anticipated, just sorting the little jobs, the last owner did the bulk of the main stuff but its making it feel better as everything was stiff due to lack of use and he seemed to miss some sort of obvious stuff like 2 lbs of leaves int he scuttle.
