Hatch mechanism again...

Yet again (3rd time?) the crummy little cast bell crank on the motor for the electric hatch release has broken...pressed the button and heard a bang at the back of the car.

Fixed now (another one from Porsch apart), but I'll admit that the jaw mechanism felt quite stiff when I was pulling it with the pliers...maybe regular lubrication is the thing. They're well packed with grease but a good squirt with WD40 seems to have improved things now.

Question: Has anybody on here tried fitting the hand operated cable from the 968 CS? That might solve the problem for good?

Hi Graham
I would think something is wrong with your cables or catches, as I haven't this problem before.
You could use the key operated assembly from an early car or 924 - the '83 - '85 cars have both electric release and fully mechanical key release.

Thanks Mike...I presume the catches can be stripped down and cleaned? Interesting idea about the early non electric mechanism...Ray Northway suggested the same thing.

I've never stripped them, just generous dosing with WD40, worked well in, dry and lightly grease.

I have seen a cable rusted almost solid, so I would make sure they run freely.
