Calliper overhall and brakes query

How much should one expect to pay for an overhall of all 4 callipers? (In case its relevant, the car is a (250bhp) 944t)

Also, are 928gts brakes better than the standard (250bhp) 944 brakes? And how much do these cost?

I'm may have to overhall the brakes later this year so was wondering what the better option is.

I'm sure one of the boys will be able to advise you on the likely costs for caliper refurb - on the two cars I've done it on I've done the bulk of the work myself so I can help.

With regard to the 928GTS brakes, two very different but important points:

1. You've got a 250bhp Turbo, therefore your front brakes are the uprated 928GT4 'medium' blacks, with handed larger (than the S2 or 220Turbo) discs. IMHO provided all the relevant working parts from the Master cylinder downstream are refurbed and in good working condition, you have uprated (e.g. AP600) fluid and SS lines & good pad material (e.g. Mintex 1155 or similar), you will NOT run out of brakes even on a trackday. The only caveat I would throw in is, "provided you're sensible and not running slicks...."

2. My understanding is that the Big blacks as run on the 928GTS require an upgrade to 17" wheels and the associated extra costs - you'd be better off putting this money into getting the existing system refurbed and up to scratch !

Just my penies worth but based on experience at numerous tracks (inc Spa & The Ring) in my Silver Rose....

Thanks chrisg.

I've already running 17s so no additional cost there. (No plans to run slicks either.)

Hopefully someone will be along soon and advise re costs for both options.

Ahh well, if you're already on 17's no extra cost !

Other factor to consider is the larger calipers = larger piston volume - will the 944 Master cylinder work OK with it ?

I believe the answer is yes as others have done this upgrade in the past - another consideration though !

Mine are being powder coated and rebuilt as we speak, fingers crossed they will be with me on monday so I will post some pictures up.

I decided to use this company in the end www.porschecalipers.co.uk

Just got a 993TT brake calipers to be overhauled. Let's see how they turn out. Have done quite many of these

Kind of interested in the brakes, mine work quite well but they seem a lot better when I get some heat in them, they arent bad but they dotn inspire confidence like may old Saab 9-3 Aero, is that just how they are or should they be epic ? is it because they arent as servoed as model cars ?
