Buying Advice and known faults help wanted KN

Hi i am looking at buying my first porsche a KN probabally looking at around an 05 4.5 S with low ish miles for around £20k
I am a bit concerned about known problems and faults and if i spent this kind of money i couldnt afford much more than service items.
can i have advice on any engine problems,gearbox,coils etc
what should i be looking to feel on a testdrive?
I like the looks alot but would anyone reccomend for reliability finding a few k more and buying RRsport or Q7?
Does anyone have a good one for sale on here?
Would you reccomend if i look at one taking it to porsche to inspect?
would it be possible to extend warranty on a 54 05 55 plate model

I dont think there are too many problems with them. Coil packs are about all I can think of, symptom is a misfire all the way to engine warning light. My indy porsche man says the V8 is the most reliable engine Porsche have ever made.

I have one currently for sale, but probably outside your criteria. A 53 with 98K miles for just 14K. Lovely drive not a thing wrong with it. I had it 3 years and no major problems other than those created by OPC when I tried to get extended warranty. Gave that idea up after a year. FInd a good Indy for honest advice and servicing.

I'd recommend the S as a reasonable compromise of economy, performance etc. But then Im a bit biassed!
Why not save yourself a shed load of money and buy mine! []

Neil is right, huge amount of car for the money. A lot more reliable than Range Rovers imo and a much better drive. By the way, with winter tyres, the off road and bad weather performance is outstanding.
As Neil said, the coil packs sometimes go, my first car had them replaced under warranty, the current one is fine at 50k.
There have been gearbox problems mentioned, but only a couple reported on this forum over the years. Engines seem to be bullet proof (famous last words).
As with all Porsches, history is crucial. Has the car been serviced to schedule at a dealer and the recalls done (nothing significant about recalls, just shows the car has been maintained in the dealer network), is the first question to ask. I would always get either a dealer check of the vehicle or an independant one done before committing to a purchase.
At the end of the day get the best you can afford, and don't worry about the options too much. Most had satnav and tiptronic.

i think i have found one put a deposit on pending a porsche or specialist inspection as the car sounded a bit tappety but so did all of the others there the 4x4 dealer its 4.5 v8 with 30kmls on 05 plate they assured me that this is normal on all of these thats what they sound like can anyone advise? drove superb. im sure porsche or a specialist will advise if this is normal at the end of the day its worth spending the money and getting a deposit back if abnormal??
does anyone know how often the services should be done on these?
