I've managed to answer my own question [
]; apparently these pintle caps are only to protect the injector, which is fine, so I'm going to put it back in and carry on. According to a post on Clarks Garage Forum this won't affect the performance of the injector: http://clarks-garage.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=3460

Broken injector tip

Hi all,
When attempting to re-insert the fuel rail it seems that one of the orange plastic tips has broken in half. Is this repairable e.g. a tidy bit of glueing, or will I need to get a replacement piece (I'm not trying to be stingy but I was hoping to drive home tomorrow!)
Thanks
Neil

That's useful to know - dicovered that one of my injectors was broken when I removed the cylinder head, but also ended up with a broken fuel rail (pressure release nut on the end sheared off), and the replacement I was given is from a later model so the FPR etc. are in different positions. On the basis, I can simply repair and use my old fuel rail & injectors, assuming I can get the broken bit out of the end...... time to trawl round the family for anyone with a reverse thread tap !
