Annoying Gearstick

Hi all. OK my gearstick is starting to really p**s me off. Selecting 1st and 2nd can sometimes be a right PITA. This is caused by the stick itself rubbing on the left hand side of the housing. There is evidence there that it has done this for many years as the paint is all rubbed away. Obviously with the additional thickness of the inner rubber and outer leather gaiter it can make 1st and 2nd selection somwhat difficult at times and has actually started to chafe my nice new leather gaiter. Has anyone suffered this problem? Is there any adjustment? I presume any such adjustment would be at the selector linkage end?

Rob, yes there is adjustment at the mechanical connection above the n/s rear drive shaft.

I modified my g/lever as the 944 cabin has a LHD bias in its layout. I fitted a 25mm offset (cut and weld) into the lever so it sits one hand span from the 8o'clock point on the steering wheel.

The adjustment is easy though

good luck

The vertical inclination is adjusted at the gearstick end by which position you bolt it to the torque tube. The vertical inclination doesn't have any bearing on the side to side inclination mate. Thanks George nopw that I have actually been arsed to have a look at the manual and a look at Clark's I can see that it is really quite easy to do. Andy where you sleeping again all day? I called you earlier [:D]

Thought I had read somewhere that if the stick is not vertical it needs adjusting.

I didn't have a missed call from you, sure you got me? Wasn't sleeping though [:D]

I find it impossible to change down to second, it's ok going up thru the gears, is this the same problem?

Sorted the gearstick adjustment today. A bit fiddly and had to remove the heatshield from above the rear box to get access. While I was in there I dialed out the side to side slop also by shimming up the selector with some shims I fashioned out of one of last night's beer cans [;)] All is now perfectly smooth and slick.
