996 CAB hardtop

Can anyone with a little more experience of the 996 cab hardtop comment on whether squeaks and rattles are normal over uneven roads? Fine on good A / M roads but the normal quality of British B roads it is quite noticeable!

My experience with a 996 cab is limited to a test drive a few months ago.
Since it was a brand new demonstrator, I presume it is fairly representative and was on a reasonably well sorted car.

I noticed that it was definitely less stiff than the coupe and that there were more creaks from it, which is perhaps what you might expect.
I drove on dual carriageway and minor roads. On the smooth stuff it was not noticeable.
I don' t recall whether it had a soft top or hard top fitted, but based on this I am not surprised by what you say.

Rgds, Stuart.

I took the hardtop off the day my car arrived and it has not been on since - so no problems with squeaks...

Took my car into the local Porsche garage last week with the same problem and they seem confident that it can be fixed. I pick it up tomorrow afternoon so I will let you know!

Good News, picked the car up this morning and during the 10 miles or so to work, not a creak or sqeak to be heard. Porsche Chapelgate told me that when new everything is obviously tight but after things loosen up a bit then they start creaking. My car is 11 months old and has 3200 miles on the clock and when I took it in it sounded as if the hard top was so loose it was in danger of falling off!!
They told me that it should remain pretty tight for a long while[:)]

That was the good news, the bad was that a mouse had eaten away some of the linings causing water ingress into the driver' s footwell and consequently not covered under warranty![]

I have a Boxster and have just bought a second hand hardtop. I know that the Hardtop will need adjusting to fit my individual car.

On the boxster, there is a panel that can be removed to expose adjustment bolts. This panel is by the fastening handles either side. I will get this done after it' s been painted.

Wether or not it' s the same on a 996, I don' t know! [:)]

Thank you Nick / Geri for your replies - I shall have to have a look for those adjusment bolts when I get home tonight!

Will let you know.

Tony.
