1998 was a landmark year for Porsche. The company celebrated its golden jubilee with its 16th overall win at Le Mans, but did so just a few months after the death of the great Ferry Porsche. The triumphant car, the 911 GT1 ’98, was special in many ways, as legendary race engineer, Norbert Singer, explains. State of the art at the time, it featured a Porsche first – a carbon fibre monocoque frame.
