A good year for 992

A round up of the year's events for 992 Register

The 992 Register has an interesting variety of 57 members’ cars so far. I’m sure many of you still need to update your profiles, so please make you do to ensure you receive the communications.

There have been several 992 events this year, mainly shared with the 991 Register as the new models filtered into the PCGB membership. In March, we spent an interesting week in Germany visiting the Stuttgart and Leipzig factories and museums.

The Leipzig test track gave us the opportunity to drive the 992s to the limits of our capabilities, proving that the new model had progressed more than expected. Other highlights of the tour, organised by Richard Watling, included visits to Colditz Castle and the Mohne Dam. There are several visits during the year and it is certainly one for the bucket list.

Production problems on the cabriolets meant the delivery date of early April was expected to extend into June, so I was offered a 4S Coupe as a stop gap. This coincided with Martin Davis’ delivery of his Carrera S Coupe, which we collected together from Porsche Centre Wilmslow in early May. My cabriolet arrived one month later.

Four performance driver courses at Millbrook in May and June gave 24 of us a fantastic day of tuition at an amazing location. The 992 test drive day organised from Cornbury House provided 30 45-minute introductions to the 992 Carrera S and 4S and hopefully showed that the future of the 911 had evolved successfully for this eighth generation.

An autumn weekend in the Lake District in early October brought together a few 992 owners, a couple with cars on order and some of the 991 regulars.
