Ken Coad reports: Evolution not revolution was the development stage of the transaxle Porsche. The model’s front engine and rear gearbox introduced a new layout and model line up, starting with the basic 924 and a two-litre four-cylinder engine. A new shape developed in the 1980s with various specifications, followed by the 944 and, again, new models - a coupe, cabriolet - through till the 1990s when along came the 968 with similar specifications and body changes involving the Club Sport, an off the production line ready made racer. All models featured excellent balanced handling and were a delight to drive.
