January news

This month's news from your 912 Register

Here’s to 2022. May this year bring happiness and great prosperity to the Club. Hopefully we can start making our New Year resolutions with one of them being to repair our Porsches, as I know from experience they have a tendency to seize up in the winter months sitting away in the garage.

Member’s story
I would like to update you on one of our previous columns. I have been in touch with Olivier Robert-Murphy who’s recently come back from a road trip, which started from London. After two years of undergoing renovations, his car was finally ready to be taken out on a road trip for him to bond with his car that is the same age as Olivier himself.

After a full check-up of the car, a 300-mile test drive (that ended up with a broken dynamo two days before he left), he decided to embark on a long drive on 25 October between London and Mallorca.
The route he drove was London - Portsmouth - St Malo - Rennes - Nantes - Bordeaux - Toulouse - Perpignan - Barcelona - Palma de Mallorca - Puerto de Soller.

The first night was spent on a ferry from Portsmouth to Saint Malo and the third night was also spent on a ferry from Barcelona to Palma de Mallorca.

However, Olivier spent the second night of the trip in Bordeaux where he met up with an old friend. Facing his friend’s house is a garage at which Olivier and his friend asked the owner if he could host his 912. He kindly agreed and when he opened the gate of the garage a wonderful collection of classic cars including a couple of Porsches from the 1980s was unveiled.

It took Olivier four days to cross three countries (UK, France and Spain), 1500 km at a maximum speed of 70mph (as he wanted to give himself all the chances to arrive…).

At every stop, when boarding the ferries Olivier was stopped by crew members, such as the Commandant who had him fast track the queue to the front of his boat as he loved his car so much. This just goes to show what an exquisite and elite car we all are very lucky to own.

I hope that this year, once the weather gets better and all our cars are in service, we can do a meet and greet and have a lovely time introducing each other face to face.

Now as I always say, “Stay safe and stay well”

Warm regards
