911 Carrera 3.2 Specification

This model was made between 1984 and 1989.

Available in a number of options, the most common being Sport or standard. The majority were Sports having uprated shock absorbers, seats and an aerodynamic spoiler back and front.

Powered by the familiar air (and oil) cooled, horizontally opposed, flat six cylinder.

This 'boxer' 3164cc engine produces 231 bhp and 284 Nm of torque.

Fitted with a 5 speed manual gearbox, Type 915 to 1986 and G50 1987 to 1989. This can be distinguished when viewing the gear lever graphic on the gear lever knob: The 915 shows Reverse gear selection below 5th gear and on the G50 Reverse is beside 1st gear. The G50 'box also saw the introduction of a hydraulic clutch.

Engine management of ignition and injection are by the Bosch Motronic system providing an efficient and reasonably economical performance.

The Cabriolet gained an electric hood in 1987.

I have found the 911 Carrera 3.2 to be strong, with a bulletproof engine and great to drive. Bear in mind there are no driver aids - you do get servo assisted brakes. Some may find the steering, clutch and the brakes a bit heavy but not me. Also, the gearbox may feel old fashioned but driving the car is all good fun and still makes a great grand tourer.
