Welcome to the 911 Carrera 3.2 Register

The 911 Carrera 3.2 Register covers the 3.2 litre model made between 1984 and 1989.

During the 911 Carrera 3.2 production era, all the non-Turbo variants - Coupe, Targa and Cabriolet - were designated the 911 Carrera and offered in standard and sports options. This era 911 is powered by the familiar air (and oil) cooled, horizontally opposed, flat six cylinder 'boxer' 3,164cc engine producing 231 bhp and 284 Nm of torque, and fitted with a 5 speed manual gearbox. Ignition and injection are managed by the Bosch Motronic system providing an efficient and reasonably economical performance. Updates during production included the Cabriolet gaining an electric hood in 1985, and the gearbox changing from the 915 to the G50 type in 1987.

The sport variant had upgrades to the shock absorbers and aerodynamic spoilers back and front. The standard UK specification was quite extensive and more extras could be added from the optional equipment list. This is a driver’s car that isn't equipped with today's ubiquitous air bags and anti-lock brakes, but includes safety features of the day, for example, safety steering column, dual circuit braking with discs all round and deformable body contours. It still remains an engaging drive and a practical and usable grand tourer to be enjoyed by all drivers.

Further variants introduced during the 3.2 Carrera era included the 911 Carrera CS in 1987; plus the 911 Carrera Speedster and Super Sport Equipment SSE in 1988. There were also a few rare non-Turbo slant nose models produced.

The last in-house Porsche designed 911 since the inception of the 911 model, the end of the Carrera 3.2s also saw the end of 15 years of 5 mph 'impact bumpers' and 22 years of the forged alloy Fuchs wheels.
