Re-assembling my 1974 restoration project I found that, unfortunately, the chrome on the headlights was badly faded and pitted. On 1975 models and later with black trim this would not have been a problem, as the chrome rings are covered by over-rings painted in body colour and do not show. However, on 1974 models and all cars with chrome trim, over-rings are not fitted and the chrome rings do show. The good news is that replacements are available separately either as part no. 911.631.933.00 from Porsche or as a pattern part from independent suppliers.
