Use of E10 petrol

I recently received an inquiry from Deborah and Ronnie Zucker concerning the use of E10 petrol in their 1977 911, which they have owned since 1986. This is the year when the 10% ethanol E10 fuel will become the standard in the UK (although E5 will continue to be available for some while yet, it may only be in the more expensive ‘super unleaded’ blends). The major problem for our cars from the E10 is that the ethanol is a solvent and can cause perishing of the older rubber used for the fuel lines. It is, therefore, a good idea to replace these if possible.
