Show and Shine and a flying visit

The Region held its Show and Shine and enjoyed a visit to Settle Falconry

A fine display at the Show and Shine

Show and Shine
On another lovely day, a short sharp shower at the wrong moment left water marks on some of the 17 cars entered. There was a good spread of votes showing the high standards of all cars there. Results were as follows:

Winners: First Don and Caroline, Yellow Cayman S; second Tim and Annette, Grey and Red 991 C2S Cabriolet

Hotel manager’s choice: Tony Darkes, Red 356 Coupe

Well done to everyone who entered and many thanks go to Carl for organising.

Flying visit
Thanks go to Geoff for organising this outing. He reports: On 27 July, seven of us, including new member Steve, set off in five cars for a falconry display in Feizor, near Settle in North Yorkshire. The first 40 minutes of the drive were on the M6, but it was fairly pleasant going, with not too much traffic. We turned off on Junction 31Aand headed for Longbridge and then the Trough of Bowland.

Lost on the way to ur bird of prey experience

Once past Longbridge, the roads opened up and I looked forward to a good drive along some tight and twisty roads. Unfortunately, due to a late night the previous evening it became obvious that I hadn’t put the waypoints into my satnav in the correct order. Fortunately, Chris’s new Macan was programmed correctly. Helen promptly took the lead, and I followed in second place. The Macan certainly performed well down the country lanes, and we spent a very enjoyable hour travelling the last 30 miles to our destination.

Getting hands on with the birds of prey

On arrival, we were met by David from Settle Falconry, who introduced us to a North American Harris’s hawk, which we took turns in flying in an adjoining field. He had also brought a buzzard along, which followed us as we walked in the hills outside Feizor although its main interest seemed to be preening itself ready for its next photo opportunity!

We then had a very pleasant Sunday lunch in Elaine’s café, adjacent to where we had flown the Harris’s hawk, which gave us the opportunity to chat and get to know new member Steve. This was followed by a very pleasant drive home through the Trough of Bowland.
