Update and Covid-19

Marque 21 open morning and Coronavirus

Marque 21 Open Morning
Tref writes; Marque21 will be familiar to most members in the Dorset region. Their open mornings are open to all marques but still tend to be dominated by Porsches and on this occasion we organised two drives to Bridport, one from West Stour and one from Poole. The meeting point at West Stour provided some entertainment with a new member, Sebastian, carefully cleaning his car before the run, and George having to exit his car either from the passenger side, or through the driver’s window! Honestly, I tried to pick the cleanest roads down to Marque21, but suffice to say, our cars were still pretty grubby when we arrived. Sorry Seb!
Turning up a little over half an hour after Marque21’s official opening time the place was already rammed – it is a good job a few of the other businesses on the estate are not open on a Saturday Morning, as it gave us more space to park and I am told that there were seventy visitors - and it certainly looked like it. As before, the predominant marque was Porsche but there were a few other cars, including Mark Donovan’s Consul Capri and a brace of Mercedes, in fact there was more manufacturer variety within Marque 21s own workshop.
No Dorset event would be complete without mention of food – and Marque 21 can cook bacon rolls almost as well as they can repair and prepare Porsches – yes, they’re that good!
The conversation flowed, problems with cars were solved and others were just drooled over, but all too soon it was time to leave, but not before some found time to clean their car for the second time that day.
There are plans for an autumn open morning and there has been some talk of a Saturday morning demonstration of some easy DIY tasks our members could carry out to help keep their cars in tip-top condition between regular services but of course, as this is written everything is on hold – see below.

Coronavirus
As I write this, the world is in turmoil and over the last two days, schools have closed, restaurants, bars and theatres have followed suit and all social gatherings have been put on hold. Things are changing so rapidly that it’s impossible to predict what the situation will be in the coming weeks and months and needless to say, all club events and meetings have been cancelled or postponed for the foreseeable future. However, by now you should have had the opportunity to participate in a virtual monthly meeting via Zoom video conferencing, something pioneered at a regional level by R26 and we have plans to use this for virtual events.
Please keep tabs on the usual communication media for updates, including email, our website, the PCGB forum, twitter and facebook.
