Vulcan Bomber visit

If Ferdinand or Ferry had ever gotten around to designing planes (rather than the occasional aero engine*) then we suspect they’d have penned something akin to one of the greatest bombers of them all: the Avro Vulcan.

This most magnificent and menacing of aeronautical achievements will be open to view exclusively to R19 members. You’ll be shown around by ex-Vulcan pilots who’ll not just stop you from twisting the wrong knob but will explain why - before you’re put on fatigues for rest of the day.

We’ll have a whole 2 hours to organise members’ cars for a photo op under the Vulcan’s impressive wingspan, as well as ample time to enjoy what Wellesbourne Mountford Airfield, near Stratford-upon-Avon has to offer as a proper working airfield. There’s plenty of parking, a café on site and, as ever, your fellow members to chat with.

Stand easy because you won’t need to ‘scramble at dawn’ to get there. You can cruise to the venue by 1pm on 8 April, ready for R19’s timed-slot for 1.30pm. The cost is a bargainous £10 a head, leaving enough for you to replenish the coffers of Shell or BP as you head north into Warwickshire. We’ve only 24 slots for members, so you’ll need to act with as much alacrity as the Vulcan’s Olympus engines on re-heat. Click below and don’t be slow.
