It was day two of the Silverstone Classic and the question of the day was how does the Porsche Club GB 356 handle on the track. Under the pre-text of an anniversary ‘parade’, we needed a suitable pace car, another 356 driven by none other than Silverstone F1 winner John Watson MBE plus a group of noisy GT40 drivers who thought they could give Germany’s finest a clean pair of heals.
Leaving the pitlane it was clear that the GT40 drivers were in for a surprise and the pace cars attitude was to give chase. Needless to say, the GT40s didn’t get away and their drivers were left wondering what sort of secret hybrid technology had been installed in those innocent looking 356s.
