December Club night, Christmas and more

December Club night
About 50 people turned up for our December Club night which was the R21 fun quiz evening. Each R21 committee member had compiled a round of questions which included current affairs, film and TV, logos and brands, Porsche abbreviations and motorsport. It was a close contest with only a couple of points separating the leading teams but the eventual winners were the four-man 'Cobra' team. Most of the other teams had 8 members so the winners did well but the inclusion of an experienced Porsche Centre technician may have tipped the scales in their favour!

Christmas at Bicester
Seven R21 Porsches met up at the Hemel services on the A41 to drive in convoy to the PCGB Christmas at Bicester Heritage. The obvious route is to follow the A41 all the way to Bicester but to try and make it more interesting we went via Buckingham. That should have been OK but just as we headed off it started to rain, and it soon turned into a torrential downpour, creating a lot of standing water. After the first couple of aquaplaning moments I quickly decided that caution should be the order of the day. The weather improved slightly as we passed Aylesbury in the direction of Buckingham but then we got stuck behind a bus which made for slow progress. I was hoping the bus would stop so we would get past but when it did stop there were half a dozen Porsches coming the other way that prevented us from getting past! On arrival at Bicester Heritage we were blown away by the amazing display inside the hangar, a great way for the club to end the year. What was equally amazing was the display of hundreds of members’ cars parked all around the airfield, an incredible display of Porsche vehicles.

Local news
As some of you may be aware, there has been a management change at Porsche Centre Hatfield. Mark Goody, who was the Centre Principal, has left and gone to take up a similar position at Porsche Centre Colchester. He has been replaced by Dan Jones who was the Centre Principal at Cambridge and at Colchester before that. Consequently, Dan has an excellent knowledge of the Porsche brand and experience of working with Porsche Club. I had a brief meeting with Dan in December and he has confirmed their commitment to continuing to stage the R21 Concours event. He is also keen to develop some 'cars and coffee' type mornings and wants to hold customer clinics particularly aimed at classic models. We will keep you informed of the details as soon as they are available.
